Cash-Strapped Greek Club Agree Sponsorship Deal With Local Brothel

Greek club chooses unusual sponsor.
With economic conditions in Greece remaining perilous, one of the country’s football clubs has come up with a novel way of attracting sponsorship money – by displaying the name of a local brothel on their shirts.
Voukefala, from the city of Larissa, revealed the innovative deal this week, and club president Giannis Batziolas explained the decision in good humour.
“When we announced to the players that our sponsor would be a brothel they wanted to know about bonuses,” Batziolas told NovaSport FM radio station.
Voukefala are not the only Greek club to have attracted an unusual sponsor.
Paleopyrgo have signed a deal with a local funeral home to become the club’s sponsors.
“It was a matter of survival. The owner of the funeral home is a friend and we agreed,” Paleopyrgo general manager and player Lefteris Vasiliou told NovaSport FM.
“The previous season was very difficult for us with the economic crisis. We did not have a sponsor for the last three years.
The players now wear black shirts with a big cross on the middle.
“I showed the players the jersey and they liked it. We know have people requesting us to produce more jerseys,” Vasiliou said.

Blimey! Seedy jokes aside, apparently the brothel in question is a legal enterprise and is worth €2m per year, which just goes to show that no matter how tough times get, the oldest profession will always flourish.
Sponsorless Blackburn Rovers take note!
