After his monster performance running on low batteries I think he should be considered. He will be 32 not so old. If he keeps up his fitness. Bresc and McKay will be on the outer one would think. McKay might become the new "Gramps" of the squad. We seem to have some up an comers in the midfield but are looking thin on the right. I am scared of Ivan v Germany. His poor passing game and lack of backing up will create many counter attacks.
Milligan seems the kind of guy who doesnt have an ego and just gives it all for his team.

I don't feel the leadership vibe off him at that level to be completely honest.
I think Ange's system will continue to progress more and more towards the CDM dropping to make a back 3 with possession and the 2 wide backs pushing very forward, much like the Oman game, so i don't see Milligan being a long term RB option in that system tbh.

Franjic sure as shit gets a tonne of assists for such a poor passer. Milligan is not a RB nor should he be considered as one. Id barely have him in a full strength squad moving forward, rather we start loading up Antonis, Rogic, Amini, DDS, etc. With minutes. Even Brattan and Brillante

But he isnt that steady passing along the ground, especially in his own half. He turned the ball over quite a bit actually. More than you would expect (hope) for a NT player.

I imagine it more off the pitch and at training.

hopefully we will have enough quality Specialist RB's to choose from, that's not to take away from his fill in performance, was outstanding, but everyone plays best where they are most comfortable. BTW when will this guy ever get an oversea's deal ?

Pretty much this. Milligan was too useful in mid-field anyway. Moving him away from the midfield to accommodate for McKay led to us losing a bit of impotence. Milligan is our best utility though. I think our right back will be Galloway anyway.

Then we would need a catastrophic failure or injury from a RB and he has to out perform every other fringe player on the country. Smith is a chance (in the squad as RB) but Galloway is a long shot. If he is good enough fine. But he has a lot of work in front of him. Edited by scott21: 3/2/2015 06:28:08 PM

He has made a lot of progress under the style of coaching that Ange and Muscat use.

I was surprised Milligan was as effective as he was at RB.=d>
I've probably watched more of him than any current Aussie player, as I support Victory in the HAL.
One new weakness that has emerged , is when jockeying, he is susceptible to being dribbled around more on his left foot/left side. He must apply his weight more evenly, so he is more comfortable on the left side.
However, this is highly technical. ATM he is one of our most complete players, probably having less weaknesses than most other Socceroos.
I'm not sure of his capacity too get up and down the pitch quickly, like Franjic and Herd. Nevertheless, I saw him sprint flat out in the RB role, covering more ground than I thought he was capable of.
His weakness, like Jedinak's, is turning and recovering quickly if beaten. He can be a little flat footed when jockeying. This is more prevalent in strong tacklers like Grella, Jedinak and Milligan, than less reluctant tacklers who stay on their feet, like Culina and Brillante.
Brillante is also decent at RB and is very young. He should improve.

I'd like to see better combined pressuring and 1v1 mid's, you can keep him as a screener or RB. Good sub on as a dual DM screener with Jedinak if we've got the lead. Milligan's an interesting one because he's now not really needed in the NT starting XI. Luongo has probably hallmarked what we want, him and Troisi's ball pressure and 1v1 breaking through defenses is what we wanna see and progression towards scoring goals. Retaining the ball and squeezing to get the ball back, we need fit running machines. Milligan will warm the bench until Jedinak's ready to sit down again.
