Former Socceroo Alan Davidson has initiated legal proceedings against the South Melbourne women's football club in relation to a pay dispute.

The Victorian Civil and Admininstraive Tribunal began hearing a complaint brought by Davidson on Monday.

Davidson, 54, coached the club's senior team for a second time between May and September last year before being replaced.

The father of current Australian national team member Jason had previously coached the side to the Victorian Women's Premier League title in 2011.

Davidson, who was capped 79 times for the Socceroos was present at the tribunal on Monday, as was SMWFC president Gabrielle Giuliano. The hearing continues.
