More than 60,000 players have already registered for 2016

Following the record-breaking 2015 season, Football Federation Victoria is set for another big year, with more than 60,000 participants already registered to play football in 2016.

Current figures are already well ahead to those at the same time last year, with 60,069 having signed up this year in comparison to 54,721.

The biggest growth came from the women's game, with 14.2 per cent more females registered so far, and the total currently sits at 10,835, a touch under the 2015 year-end total of 10,889.

Female MiniRoos are the biggest contributor to figure, as the current total of 3276 already exceeds the 2015 end of year total of 3264, while the junior girls total has also surpassed the 2015 total of 4923 with more than 5000 girls playing football in 2016.

Year-to-date numbers are up all across the board, with male junior registrations already ahead of 2015 totals, sitting at just under 20,000.

The numbers have followed an increase of more than 300 teams in 2016 winter competitions, which kicked off earlier this month.

They also support the findings from Roy Morgan which show that football is the number one sport for Australian children.

With the registration window closing at the end of July, there is still time to play football.

Not sure if already posted. Awesome news though.

300 extra teams and more than 5,400 more registered players, with the numbers still rising. =d>

Very exciting to see a rise in participation once again. The battle now for FFV is to increase the number of coaches.

I know many clubs in Melbourne's west, who have Miniroos with 9-12 kids per team, because of coach shortages. Miniroos allows 5, sometimes 6 on field. Most matches are 15 minute halves, some coaches agree to play 20 to give the kids more of a run. I've coached Miniroos with 10 kids and it is difficult.
