and here we go fragmenting older clubs and the new association.
There is already current Associations around all the above clubs.
In some areas its decreasing participation of teams at certain age groups in current Associations and then putting more pressure on ground availability.
Can anyone provide some insight on this in the know ?

Regional clubs can still enter in the qualifying round. Entries don't close until early Feb. It's just required for state league teams to enter.

FFV looking to push regional participation in FFA Cup

Staff Writer December 2, 2016While the 2016 FFA Cup finished just two days ago with Melbourne City lifting its maiden trophy, Football Federation Victoria is now inviting entries for next year’s Cup.

While it is mandatory for clubs in National Premier Leagues and State Leagues (MSL1-MSL5) to compete, FFV is extending an invitation for regional and metropolitan league clubs to compete as it looks to drive participation across Victoria. The competition boasted 704 participants from around the country in its third year, including 203 Victorian clubs – the most of any other federation.Victoria has been a dominant force in the three years of the competition thus far, as both Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City have claimed the title while NPL Victoria sides Bentleigh Greens and Hume City have reached the semi-final stage.

“Victoria has shown through three years of Westfield FFA Cup competition that it has a great appetite for FFA Cup, from the first qualifying round through to the final,” FFV General Manager of Football Operations Matthew Annells said.

Of those 203 clubs however, only nine were from regional areas and were not competing in NPL or State Leagues.Though participation has gradually risen from the first 631 teams that took part in the Cup’s inaugural year FFV is eager to extend its engagement in regional areas as football in the country continues to grow.

“In 2017 FFV wants to reach out to its regional stakeholders and engage the clubs, players and communities that contribute to our great game and let them know that we want them to be part of the magic of the Cup.”

FFV Commercial and Media General Manager Anthony Grima added that adding exposure to the competition’s preliminary rounds will continue to grow following its success this year.

“FFV’s initiatives giving media exposure to the Victorian qualifying rounds of Westfield FFA Cup competition were a great success engaging the wider football community, and this will grow and continue with some exciting plans ahead for 2017,” Grima said.

The draw for the first round of the 2017 FFA Cup is Tuesday February 7, all clubs wishing to particpate will need to register before 9am February 6.

Why are places limited? The Cup should be open to as many clubs as want to participate. Start with regional qualifying?

Apparently these guys haven't gotten word that the FFA Cup is getting canned next season. PaulC needs to tell them.

I am stunned they weren't in this before. I had to go back through the records.

I hope we see Myrtleford Savoy back in the cup.
They made quiet an impressive run for a regional side.

Looks like they have already signed up from the FFV tweet pasted above.

I don't think any of the Gippsland Regional Association clubs had entered before.

If I were the FFA I would meet the heads of each federation in person and personally invite each club. No monkeying about.

The Gap football have tweeted that they  have added 310 lux lights, 10 more than the required to host a non A-League club. They commented on that they made these changes as a result of the cup. Corio Soccer Club has made similar changes but I don't know how much lux they have. All in all it's great to see these changes happen.

Another issue in the cup is Andrew Howe, who does an enormous amount of work doing stats for Fox Sports and the HAL compiled these maps of every venue played at during the path to the Cup.

Here is the link: http://howe.how/football/ffacup16_map.html

One thing that I have noted is that every state federation has increased in number bar Newcastle. This is in line with a decrease in a number of regional federation. Why is this? How can we promote regional involvement? Country communities are where the battle for hearts and minds are won.
