+x+xWith expansion of the A-League hopefully coming in the 2018-19 season, what will happen with the allocation for the FFA cup? 2 spots taken off the state federations or an increased competition? Surely they will increase the competition. Surely they wouldnt make it smaller lol. I actually think they would reduce Member Federation representation until such time as a Round of 64 is viable, which might be around the time the A-League goes to 14 or 16 teams.

The best way to do it is make the clubs qualify out of their States. Run the State Cups till an appropriate round then split so the FFA Cup and State Cups can run concurrently with little disruption to the State Cups. Here is an example I posted in the FFA Cup thread on the main board. It could work with the HAL clubs Qualifying out of their state without disrupting the State Cups. I agree with TheSelectFew in that some of these State Cups having been rnning for such a long time it would be a shame to see them disrupted. Whilst the FFA Cup is important the State Cups shouldn't be sacrificed for it. You could keep the State Cup/Qualifying exactly the same but at the appropriate point split from the State Cups and run a concurrent Qualifying sect for the FFA Cup - similar to how the Waratah Cup worked this year with Blacktown City joining a playoff round prior to the Semis after the NSW Ro32 spots were decided. The only 2 clubs guaranteed to the Ro32 being the NPL Champs and the Reigning Cup Holder. The Nix can then replace whichever team is the reigning cup holder in their State Qualifying Round.
| CURRENT Ro32 | PROPOSED Ro32 | A-LEAGUE | 10 | 1*Reigning Cup Holder | NPL CHAMPS | 1 | 1 | ACT | 1 | 1 | NNSW | 2 | 3 | NSW | 5 | 8 | NT | 1 | 1 | QLD | 4 | 5 | SA | 1 | 2 | TAS | 1 | 1 | VIC | 4 | 6 | WA | 2 | 3 | | 32 | 32 |
Using last years Dockerty Cup as an example in the 6th Round of FFA Cup Qualifying/Dockerty Cup there was
At this point the cups could be split with the Dockerty Cup continuing as is and the 8 winners above joining the FFA Cup Qualifying Rounds. Whilst the losers of this Dockerty Cup Round could play off for the final 2 spots. It would look like this
FFA CUP Ro32 QUALIFYING ROUND Green Gully Bulleen Melb. Knights Port Melbourne Bentleigh South Melbourne Richmond Hume City Melbourne Victory Wellington Pheonix (Melbourne City guaranteed in Ro32)
Then Avondale, Dandenong City, Heidelberg, Malvern City, Kingston City, Murray United, St. Albans, North Geelong could enter their own little pre qualifying knock out for the final 2 spots.
Would probably have to start the NPL seasons and State Cups a few weeks earlier to fit in the extra games but I dont think anyone will mind that. Will definitely be a different scenario for each State Cup where the HAL clubs join and the split happens dependant on Ro32 Qualifying numbers and when the HAL expands you can just adjust when the Cup split happens according to where the new HAL clubs are. +xCouldn't Victoria for example have 2 cups (State & National) ? More games for players A state league club as it stands in victoria can win: Super cup League League finals FFA cup Dockerty cup And im pretty sure there is a preseason thing. Adding one more makes everything meaningless. Make the tournaments relevant.

But it only works out at the moment because Vic get 4 FFA Cup spots.
That means 8 r64. If MV & MC played in that round it would need 10 teams.
Victoria is fortunate they received 1,2,(4),8 etc.
What I meant was having FFA Cup and Doherty Cup as 2 separate competitions.
You end up with the same result , 4 qualifiers for FFA Cup and a Doherty Cup winner. It would mean more games for teams.

+xAnyone keen to do an FFA Cup challenge? You must see one round of each at least. Post the photos here. Including the Round of 32 onwards? It's definitely doable for the qualifying rounds, but after that the luck of the draw plays a big part. I guess that's the challenge though!

I did a couple of rounds for last year. This year i want one for all. I reckon you can do it in brisbane for sure.

It's easily doable for the qualifying rounds, but in the last few years we've had rounds from the Round of 32 onwards where the only remaining Brisbane teams were drawn away from home. But for the qualiyfing rounds I'm in.

As long as there's a game in Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunny Coast in a given round, I'll make it. If it's like the 2016 version, there were no Queensland teams left in the Quarter finals though!

Great too see even more Vic clubs entering. It will be a killer trip up to Mildura to play Irymple if they get drawn at home.
