The ffa cup is more important from a commercial point of view, eg Heidelberg making a profit of 300k against Melb city last year, you won't get this anytime soon in the npl, it's purely financial and a brief taste of mainstream interest.
From the on field side of things the league will always trump the cup, something special about winning a league that you play week in week out in. When you have played and outlasted all your competition playing teams twice home and away as opposed to the cup where your standing is based on luck as much as anything.
I'd love a cup run personally because we haven't had one yet, but if we win the grand final on Sunday it will be 2 championships, 2 premiers plates and a dockerty cup in the past 3 seasons, take that any day.
