+x+xRegional Population GrowthRegional Population GrowthRegional Population Growth How many Satellite dishes and how much disposable income do they have for National Branded items STV penetration is the lowest in Australia. In my view a team down here wouldn't generate the revenue for the broadcaster that would cover their share of the broadcasters payment for the broadcast rights. In that they would not be alone. Newcastle, Central Coast, Wellington and possibly Perth rely on subsidisation from the "donor" markets of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. As far as disposable income is concerned Tasmanians are fairly well off due to the comparatively low housing costs.

Another expansion thread, the Tassie consortium are real busy making their point, but I fear the atmosphere at these games will be equal to Newcastle or Wellington matches atm, I hope not but thats how I feel it will turn out.
Also, all these people making waves and they have no idea what the FFA criteria is, in fact I bet there would not be one next March as promised if there wasn't so much hype about it now. Go Social Media

I'm guessing you think the games at Newcastle, Wellington and Gosford are a failure in terms of atmosphere? I've seen some good games on TV at those venues with a decent atmosphere. Townsville also had games with a decent atmosphere with 6 - 7 000. Sometimes the bigger stadia in the bigger cities with sparsely filled stands seem drab.

Go Social Media North Hobart Oval will probably have better atmosphere than Wellington or Newcastle considering it's a tiny Oval by Footy standards so it will be pretty intimate compared to the cake-tin or too big like Newcastles ground and they'll have a ton of terracing which always helps. If it looks anything like this for the football (which i'm sure it would be given the community interest) then I can't see atmosphere being an issue

Even more interesting from that video is that a coach NPL signing is reported on TV!

Whilst there is a plethora of expansion threads, it shows the significant opening for the FFA to push for inclusion, if they are serious about developing football in Australia.
The alternative to expansion is for the AFC to expel us from the confederation. That would rattle the cages at headquarters!

Our NPL gets just as much if not more coverage than our AFL state league.

so they need an average of 5000 crowd wise to break even not knowing the Tasmanian sporting market, would that many turn up on a regular basis ?

The FFA are trying to appeal to broadcasters, right now.
They won't achieve that by talking up a tassie bid.

No secret there, they are boring as can be more often than not, players noticeably lift with the crowd, I remember the first say 76-8 seasons Mariners- Newcastle games were a derby to look forward too, now the magic is gone. I suspect the driving factor has really been the reluctance by these clubs to spend money on better players that deliver. We are heading for a Scottish Premier league model without promotion/relegation and I'm sure when the entry criteria is released it will favour populated areas with big budget promises in toe.

Franz Straka was a great coach who did a lot with such a shoe-string budget and player depth at the club. His engagement with the fans was brilliant and of course his baige suit jacket was something to behold. I wish he was still around in the A-League.
