The FFA are pretty much gone by November when we’ll have new masters of the game. We’re pretty much treading water for 18 months on all the big decisions.

fingers crossed! 2 questions - does this suggest that the FFA are on board with it? - who decides who is in it? i could imagine a large shit fight!

+xfingers crossed! 2 questions - does this suggest that the FFA are on board with it? - who decides who is in it? i could imagine a large shit fight! The FFA (whatever future form they take) will have to ratify any future second division as they are the governing body of football in Australia. That doesn't stop the second division having an independent board though (like the A-league will soon).

So what is the best way to go about expansion in this case?
Top 4 bid are chosen, 2 in at 19/20, the other 2 in at 20/21
All other 10-14 bids go to the 2nd div in 20/21, with the 'promise' of further expansion and P&R within the next 10 years?

Hope it takes off. This way, the unsuccessful bids can have a home if they are genuine about creating a club in top flight at some point in the future.

I don’t think the AAFC and their clubs would be to keen on letting failed franchise bids into their “Championship”. They’re not doing all this ground work for people to buy their way in. This model is for a competition (2nd div) populated by real existing NPL member clubs. Ok some expansion bids meet those criteria as existing AAFC members.

"Krayem said the AAFC will call for expressions of interest from clubs or consortia interested in participating in The Championship in December, with bids to close in May next year." Nov 2017.AAFC seem to be leaving it open to new bidders.

If there's a wide field of bidders they can just raise the requirements to narrow the field. Might even end up getting closer to professional teams as a consequence.

Latest TWG article https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/ffa-to-hold-second-division-talksThe big question remains whether it can stack up financially. AAFC had proposed a $2.5 million budget for each club and claimed it could get The Championship up and running without any additional funding from FFA. Harder to being FFA to the table on this than it was to get the North and South Korean presidents together.

^^ Players union being a union. The proposed second division is semi professional. So this is nothing more than PFA shooting down their own dreams.

I thought we already achieved that this year Pala :)
I do wonder how much it would cost to run the league per year and for each club.

kind of crazy. Just cover travel and say 15 players plus a coach and an assistant coach must be paid a minimum of 50k a year and thats only 1 mil a year yet fully professional. What do PFA want? It sounds like their model costs almost as much as an a league club minus stadium hire?

Definitely a step in the right direction. I hope it gets traction. But lets not kid ourselves. It needs to step up to full time professionalism in club and player.
