Cameroon have an inexperienced team but they play better as a unit. Early exposure against Chile saw gaps appear and then they stablised.

I'd go with

Ryan
Leckie Sainsbury Milligan Behich
Mooy Irvine
Rogic Troisi
Juric Cahill

3 points a must. Have to start getting wins against teams outside of Asia in competitive tournaments. A win against a solid African side would go a long way.

Luongo and Behich have to be dropped. Luongo just gave the ball up and Behich was exposed badly defensively and then abandoned those duties to continually muck up in the second half. I would drop Degenek as well, not good enough, it is worth seeing what Dylan McGowan can do although I doubt it will be much better

Why isn't Craig Goodwin in this squad?
Given the squad chosen, the Socceroos should lineup as follows:

                                      M Ryan
   D MacGowan         T Sainsbury          B Wright
                  M Milligan (c)          A Mooy
M Leckie            J Troisi      T Rogic          A Gersbach
                                     T Juric

The starts to matches have to be better and chemistry has to improve fast too, given
this new formation.

Cameroon won't be making the world cup, they have massive issues with their FA which has included some of their best players to refuse to play for them. There AFCON win was a bit of a fluke, this is the sort of game we need to show that we are capable of beating above average teams.

If we play like we did in the second half against Germany we will win easily.

If we play like the first 20 minutes, it will be a dire game.

I'm leaning more towards the former as the Socceroos seemed to have finally worked out how to play Ange's system in the 2nd half.

Still only going to be a one goal win.  I'm going for 2-1.

Not a lot wrong with the team TRFS posted. Ideally Goodwin would've been in the squad, Degenek could've been dropped and Leckie at RB, but with the squad we've got, that's pretty good.

I'd prefer he play 4atb, but if we're going with 3 I think this is our best XI. For furture squads I'd have a look at Wilkinson or perhaps even Devere.

This Cameroon side won't be making the World Cup, too many internal issues, I'll be disappointed if we fail to win a game we have a clear shot at three points.

Yes - although he doesn't offer as much defensively in-front of Mooy - whereas Troisi add more defensively.
I also feel Kruse works well as a great sub for Troisi later in the game against tired legs.

Behich was solid, that first half luongo was so bad milligan had do cover him in which degenek and sainsbury had to cover him which left behich with no support out wide.

Have mooy playing along side milligan, bring irvine on for luongo, he can play alongside rogic.
We played far better when we had mooy picking the ball in the back 3rd as we had the 2 best ball players not in each other's way.

We used to get good results against African teams, Ghana & Nigeria spring to mind of late.

If we are to make it to the World Cup, these are the types of teams we should be trying to beat in order to progress to the knockout stages.

If we can't beat a team from Africa we may as well not turn up to the biggest event in sport. What's the point in making up the numbers?

If Ange cannot beat an African team in competition, then he's got to go.

Willing to throw D McGowan in but damn it could backfire. Hasn't had a proper taste in the setup yet so if it goes balls up everyone here will be calling for his head.
I think Degenek is more reliable then Wright.

Think Behich more then deserves an extended run. He was up against Brandt which is a tough ask, only made worse by the fact we invited germany in the first half to attack full belt whilst still committing our wing backs with no balance at all. Second half we pressed as a team and he was hardly exposed as much.

For me its just wether or we start with Kruse or Irvine. I like the idea of trying to play a pressing game for as much of the game as possible, there fore it could be usefull to see both Kruse and Troisi introduced later in the game with added impact.

Nice and balanced and makes the most of the stock we have available.
Would like to see Gersbach in there also.

Talk about a "sky is falling" mentality.

You do realise that they are ranked 16 places higher than us, and that there are 8 African nations ranked higher than us (Ghana and Algeria are both ranked slightly lower than us both who were at the last World Cup, with Algeria making it to the last 16). Not to mention it is a one off game ... no Asian team beat an African nation at the last world cup (3 games played). Also two African nations progressed to the round of 16 (no Asian nations did).

Yes a win would be nice, but not the end of the world. Be a bit suicidal to get rid of Ange now with only two games left in qualification too ...

Can't see Ange changing the back 3 unless there's an injury.

But don't you know? Ange is giving us his attitude and telling us we know nothing about football and that his back 3 is actually a back 5 where players drop back to assist and condense the defensive line. All you have to do to believe him is pretend you haven't watched the last 3 games where those back 3 have been stranded with no magical players dropping back, and opposition forwards walking straight through the 3 on goal.
