Club has announced it on their Twitter - sourceWhat's this, the 3rd Aussie to sign in Portugal this off-season? Best of luck to Nick, knew he'd have no trouble in finding another contract post-Vuck. Hopefully enjoys his time in Portugal and polishes his game even further.

Lol just checked where Tondela finished last season and they escaped relegation by a solitary goal - sourceHe's going to be a very busy boy if that trend continues!

This is great! Hopefully he can follow in Traore's footsteps in establishing himself in the Portugese league before moving onto a bigger club.
He'll do very well if he can stay fit.

Was wondering why he hadnt been snapped up by another A-Leauge side. Hope it works out for him.

This is great news for Australian Football. Hopefully both Ansell and McGowan get plenty of game time and they perform well. If that happens it'll open the door for more of our players to be looked at by clubs over there. Tondela isn't a great side, turning over 15 players each year, but hopefully he does well.

A Jerks-supporting friend just asked me the question if I thought all these Australian players heading to Portugal had anything to do with Martin Lee, Jerks owner, whom also "owns" (?) the Portuguese 2nd division. Was an interesting question that I don't personally have the answer to, but I wonder if this current "trend" has anything to do with Lee & his links..

In before Jets produce a star that moves to Portugal and does a Mooy

Potentially a great move, always rated Ansell, I was sorry to see him go but this could be a platform for greater things, especially with the Socceroo's current need for competent defenders!

Could've sworn I saw a China move for him a couple of months ago.
Good luck to him, hopefully he can stay injury free.

Interesting move hopefully means more of our defenders to move European clubs instead of the Asian clubs like in Korea and China like in the past

+xLol just checked where Tondela finished last season and they escaped relegation by a solitary goal - sourceHe's going to be a very busy boy if that trend continues! Doesn't matter. I rate Portugal as the best league in Europe for Aussies to play football outside Germany, Spain, France and Italy ATM. Definitely better than the EPL as it is more tactical and technical, rather than a league of football athletes. Top Portuguese teams like Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Porto are decent teams in European comps too. From watching Portuguese football they could sometimes do with a few physically strong players like Aussies to augment their high technical qualities.
