Was an interesting question that I don't personally have the answer to, but I wonder if this current "trend" has anything to do with Lee & his links..

I rate Portugal as the best league in Europe for Aussies to play football outside Germany, Spain, France and Italy ATM.

Definitely better than the EPL as it is more tactical and technical, rather than a league of football athletes. Top Portuguese teams like Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Porto are decent teams in European comps too.

From watching Portuguese football they could sometimes do with a few physically strong players like Aussies to augment their high technical qualities.
