Wellington Phoenix, with a full contingent of 23 players ahead of this year's A-League season, must let players go before making any additional signings.

The acquisition of Serbian frontman Andrija Kaludjerovic on Tuesday brought new coach Darije Kalezic's haul to five players, following the arrivals of Dario Vidosic, Scott Galloway, Daniel Mullen and Goran Paracki. The Phoenix now have a full roster of 23 players, including their allotment of five foreigners - Kaludjerovic, Paracki, Gui Finkler, Marco Rossi and Roy Krishna.Further changes to the squad before their A-League season opener against Adelaide on October 8 would depend on players leaving or suffering injuries.Phoenix chief David Dome said he was not placing pressure on any players to leave the club and backed Kalezic's current group to get the job done in 2017/18.

"We're always looking at how we can strengthen the squad but it's difficult at the moment, especially with a squad of 23 - and, looking to bring in players, it's always going to be a costly exercise," Dome said."It's a bit of a balancing act."Irrespective of future comings and goings, Dome said Kalezic and assistant Rado Vidosic had brought much-needed discipline to the Nix's day-to-day operations. They had added defensive solidity to the side's attacking verve in pre-season, according to Dome, and were enforcing professional conduct."I'm strongly of the opinion the jigsaw pieces are coming together," Dome said."Also, very impressed with how Darije and Rado are running training, it's a very disciplined outfit now, continually pushing us as a management team to improve other aspects around the club, all the time.''

That's interesting, this is the most optimistic I've been since before the 14-15 season when they signed Burns, Rodriguez, Bonevacia and McGlinchey and had beaten West Ham united in a preseason cup competition.

Overall they've strengthened the squad quite a lot from last season.

As @Tom Rogics Foot said above Italiano is probably the biggest question mark as he was prone to mistakes in the Nix reserve team in the SS Premiership. However the team knows him well and letting Moss go was a conscious decision (they never tabled him an offer apparently), we've also seen that Italiano's distribution is better than Moss' so far and we also saw with Young that sometimes it's just top flight gametime that is needed.

Our last marquee was a waste of money.

The Phoenix  tend to have at least one player outside of the cap as an accounting marquee even if they aren't a huge name, I'd imagine that's still the case.

Truth is we have never really had a true marquee period, With a full squad its all we have left to gain some more fire power up front unless Watson leaves?.

Truth is we have never really had a true marquee period, With a full squad its all we have left to gain some more fire power up front unless Watson leaves?.

That is the truth, the rumors of Kosta's wages aside the Phoenix have never had a proper marquee. Actually, that's not true they signed Elrich from Fulham as a big money marquee in a gigantic waste of money.

The interview with Dome yesterday seemed to suggest that they're still in the market for new players but that they'd have to get rid of someone to do that, my guess would be Fenton or Rufer are more likely to go than Watson as Watson was given a two year deal just a couple of months ago.

I also read in the local paper a while back that the Phoenix spent a fortune last year and weren't happy with their return on investment, this year the decision was made to spend more on coaching and management and a little less on the playing squad so I doubt a marquee is forthcoming - I can't think of any Australian or NZ players on the market who would be worth marquee cash?

The marquee doesn't have to be a Aussie or Kiwi, rather a euro or Sth American player.

They don't have any foreign spots open though.

Unless Krishna plays Newcastle every week they won't be making the 6

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

krishna's been playing in NZ for nearly 10 years, how/why have they not sorted citzenship for him yet?

He didn't apply until recently, he gets it in a couple of years.
