+x+xIt'll be in Sydney, Allianz most likely given ANZ will host NRL the week before. Get through that and we'll be in Melbourne for the final qualifier. It's not even a discussion. As it should be. Has Waz given up advocating for Suncorp?

nah, it's not about individual games - much as I'd like either of (hopefully) the next two games up here I've no issue with either being in Melb/Sydney.
What I do have an issue with is two WCQ phases going past without a single game in QLD. That is unacceptable and shows the self-serving mentality that drives our game. It's no wonder we can't break out of being a niche sport.

+x+x+x+x+xThis is a tricky game they have shown they cam match with the best of Asia.We struggled to win against Iraq and Thailand or Syria a stronger add on top of that a coach who shows to much complacency and FFA in a mess. Japan beat Syria 8-0 over both home and away in Round 2. Concacaf is the worry No, the "won every game before we played it" attitude of Australia is the worry Fucking this. Everyone reckoned we'd destroy Thailand. -PB The only thing "destroyed" was me

I agree and luck had a bit to do with it (hitting the post 3 times and 3 times cleared off the line) having said that I wonder if there has been a more inefficient performance from any wc qualifiers than scoring 2 from 45 shots...... Finishing is a worry and I don't see it getting better in the next few years Did I tell you about the best root I "almost" got?

Small margins will matter here. I think if it can be hyped up at Sydney will give the Socceroos an advantage. The away leg is what worries me about the Socceroos they cannot seem to keep a clean sheet. Our defenders make at least 5 massive mistakes per game, meaning there is a gaping goal for anyone who can hit straight.

Part was bad luck since we hit the post but I would expect a top class team to convert 1 in 5 to 1 in 6 shots

In a FFA coaching conference the average conversion rate is about 7 attempts per goal. Using that criteria we should've scored 6 or 7 against Thailand.

The worry is I don't see improvement in finishing at youth level I only see improvement in the ability to create chances So perhaps in 10 years we make 90 shots for 3 goals against thailand…..

we might have had 45 shots but how many where sort of longer range shots. we had hardly any crosses into the box compared to what we should've/could've, thats what angers me the most. Especially considering our 2 goals did both come from crosses. Its ridiculous how we constantly forego crossing to try and play the ball through them in the middle. especially against thai midgets.

"Thai Midgets" lol .... they hardly looked short and they come from a nation where the national sport is'Muay Thai' or basically kick boxing. We on the other hand consider our national sport to be glorified "catch". Racial stereotyping our opponents won't help 😉

+xWhy is it through the entire campaign when we attack we laabor so hard for our goals but whenever the opposition attacks we look like conceding? Even to Thailand. Speed. We plod around the park passing here and there. Patently clear last night, in doing that, the Thais got behind the ball and parked the bus and let us take our 30 shots over the bar. They break quickly and get behind us and score a goal. Simples.

Simples. part of it is the psychological strain it takes on a supporter knowing you need the perfect opportunity to score and you only then have a 50-50 shot or hitting an open goal from 5 metres. When the opposition has the ball they rarely look like missing even if the chance is half as good we are pretty good at creating chances to be fair

Not sure where the Syria game will be, but I'd be surprised if it was Sydney, as they'll definitely get the home concacaf leg if we get that far. Aami is probably the most suitable venue for Syria, or Suncorp as they should be able to get a decent pitch seeing as though there will only be 1 game of league on it between now and then.

+x+xI think theres a hoodoo on melbourne (NB: The game that echoed last night's disaster the most -- Iran '97 -- was played in Sydney...) Nope...I was at the MCG to watch this debacle! And from memory everyone blamed the serial pest who tore the net down for killing Australia's momentum...

On paper we should beat Syria, but with three at the back i can't see us beating a Concaf team. The best we can do against decent teams is draw. That's our form .So to expect us to all of a sudden score and not concede in a high pressure playoff, with jetlag is like expecting us to beat Thailand by more than one goal. With three at the back it just wont happen. So either Ange is sacked or he eats humble pie, which is lower on his diet than cockroach cluster pie with anthrax ripple topping.u

But does the contract stipulate all playoff games or only the playoff that decides the world cup spot? Waz will hate this, but after the decent atmosphere last night, I reckon there is a good argument to hold it at AAMI park to build on it.

Agreed, AAMI to hold the asia playoff and NSW to host the CONCACAF playoff.

It wont happen but id like to see us go to a 4231 away against syria with a focus on holding the ball up in the front third and getting midfielders up to support either Juric or cahill' Obviously there are a number of weeks before this game and a lot can happen in that time but:
----------------------------Langerak--------------------------------- Milligan---------Sainsbury----------Spira--------------Gersbach ----------------------Irvine-------------Mooy--------------------------- Kruse---------------------Rogic----------------------------Goodwin -----------------------------Juric---------------------------------------
I've aimed for defensive strength but also with guys technically good enough to damage the syrians in the final third. Ideally allowing Rogic more space to operate in.
At home i'd risk a little more and aim to get on the front foot from the outset:
------------------------------Ryan----------------------------------- Leckie------------Sains--------------Spira--------------Gersbach ---------------------milligan-----------mooy----------------------- Troisi----------------------------------------------------------Kruse ----------------------Maclaren-------Juric--------------------------
I feel by inverting troisi and kruse they'll have the ability to come in and strike on their more natural foot while opening up the space in behind for both leckie and gersbach to exploit and hopefully god willing get decent service into the box.
If we can then get the lead we need at home we can sacrifice juric or maclaren, play on the counter and utilise another midfielder like luongo or irvine to protect the lead.
Also a goodwin type winger to replace kruse and give us a bit more protection in wider areas.
Pie in the sky stuff though, i fully expect more of the same bullshit

Queensland Govt don't want and Suncorp doesn't need Soccer matches This will not bring in any overseas money to the local economy It will be left to Sydney and Melbourne to waste taxpayers cash on a dick measuring contest
