Are all likely to offset age concerns with all, bar Brady, likely to get significant game time with Skapetis, Brown and Calletti shoe-in starters meaning Roar would start a game with only 6 players over 30 assuming DeVere (27) and Hingert (25) start - that would be fewer 30+ players than SFC started the Grand Final with ...

It is not the overall number of 30+ players It is the number of 30++ in the game at one time. And having U23 guys doesn't balance it out, if anything it brings a greater imbalance. There are no players there who are too past it (or too young!) to play in the AL, just not all together.

So this is the thread where we discuss how old Brisbane players are now, last one was how tall Brisbane players are... Next it will be how much do Brisbane players weigh.

Anyway........ Great signing, looking forward to watch him play.

The fundamental problem is Brisbane is not in NSWs or Victoria so anything they do must be wrong - their players must be too old, too young, too short, too tall, too thin, too fat, not enough foreigners, too many foreigners, or worse still, the wrong combination of all of the above ..... it's comical BS because (some) people can't say what they're thinking: Roar are not from NSW or Victoria so of course they have to be "also rans" for the coming season and all their players are wrong somehow 😂

(If Skapetis was having this preseason for a Sydney or Melbourne side we'd be reading all about it, the kid is on fire, and yet no one (in the media) is writing about it).

:laugh: I blame the long off season, its the reason I tend to not visit the site as much anymore when the discussions get to this point. Skapetis is a gun and I agree it is a shame there has not been much talk about him in the media but good things come to those who wait, he is going to have a big season. 

He's referring to the mid to late 30's players (hence the ++) not specifically just over 30. Not that I give a shit either way.

I wasn't giving too much credence to how someone splits the 30 age group down as it's all nonsense anyway;

Broich at 36 was clearly good enough until his ankle got in the way; as are many players in their mid 30's

The only age stat I would agree with is there are less suitable quality players in their 30's which diminishes further the higher the age. But this does not mean if a player is 34, 35, 36 or 38 that they are not good enough. It is nonsense.

It's the same in the lower age bracket as well; there are less suitable quality players in the 16, 17, 18, 19 age bracket as well - but that does not mean they are not there

It's not a matter of being too old or too young, it's a matter of whether a player is good enough. To argue a player that is good enough (like Kristensen) is too old is stupidity ....

And if the argument is older players are more likely to be injured than younger football players then please someone show me the stats, the professional coaches I've talked to don't see an age correlation and it's a topic that has been heavily researched in Europe and the US and is, at best a complex subject to analyse and to draw conclusions from with a lot of the research contradicting each other.

Again, SFC had no problem with older players last year and it's noticeable their only injury concern going in to this season is an ACL to one of their younger squad players.

Most teams are old anyway, so it isn't really a problem.
