FFA will be licking their lips if it happens.
Venue would be ANZ

Sydney will put south Melb away very convincingly. I'm thinking 3-0 or 4-0

I have a feeling Adelaide will win and progress.

South Melbourne presents a huge banana-skin for anyone they face now - they'll know if they get a big crowd and reach the Cup final their bid for A League status will gain real credibility. Sydney are genuine favourites and by a long way, but if everything aligns on the night - big crowd, motivated players, a bit of luck Souths way then maybe ...

But I think it's a Sydney v Adelaide final as well.

And this is where the Cup loses a bit of its sparkle - we all assume the A League side will win over the NPL side so it's 99% a dead rubber. If Sydney win through we know they will host the final this year and it's pretty certain if SFC host it, they'll win it. That kills the magic - it's like going to see a film with a predictable plot and ending. Boring.

None of that may turn out true of course but I think it's a reasonable assumption for many supporters and so the FFA Cup fizzles out every year at this stage due to the rigging applied in the draw

Agree re south Melbourne , was at game last night and must say SM would not be out of place in the A League very strong abeit against a team that seemed slow after a long season .

Adelaide hosted in Year 1 vs Perth
Victory hosted in year 2 vs Perth
City hosted in year 3 vs Sydney

Almost a given that
Sydney/South Melbourne will host in Year 4 vs Adelaide or WSW

South Melbourne & every other establish club should not be included in the 2nd tier.
Create new clubs with a new identities, leverage off the South Melbourne brand sure, but they need to remove the stigma of the past from the establishment of the future. South Melbourne have more than enough players that are quality enough to play in a 2nd division team, so why not allow the new clubs to sign those players, clubs build from the roots of existing without maintaining the negativity of the past in the setup.

Sorry offtopic and ranting.

I don't like the rigging either but why would it fizzle at the semi final stage if the draw wasn't rigged and there was no South melbourne?
Why does it lose it's sparkle coz we assume the bigger team will win a cup tie? What are you talking about?
Wanderers were taken to a penalty shootout last night and 2 out of the 7 A-League teams out of the cup were beaten by lower league teams so 99% a dead rubber is an odd stat.

Brisbane fans always talk down the cup  though so I expect nothing less.

Not going to happen.

Adelaide will wipe the floor with us.

We were outplayed in that second half

The corollary to your statement is that Poppa is not the coach to hang one's hat on, or give the Australian gig to. One simple change by the Blacktown coach and WSW had no answers.

@ Davide82

Cup football is at its best when it's unpredictable. The earlier rounds have that. From the SF stage it becomes preductable hence the comment.

I wish Brisbane were in Sydneys position, I'd love the predictability then 😂

But for the benefit of the competition at the very least the final should be a free draw with the home team drawn from the hat not picked by Gallop.

I think it's time we ended the seeding draw and make it a totally free and random draw from the outset to the final.

The balls used to draw the teams were influenced by electromagnets. Also, Lowy is responsible for 9/11.

I agree a free draw would be great But none are like that that I recall OS.
For eg the FA Cup below.....
The competition is open to any eligible club down to Level 10 of the English football league system – all 92 professional clubs in the Premier League (Level 1) and the English Football League (Levels 2 to 4), and several hundred "non-league" teams in Steps 1 to 6 of the National League System (Levels 5 to 10).[2] A record 763 clubs competed in 2011–12. The tournament consists of 12 randomly drawn rounds followed by the semi-finals and the final. Entrants are not seeded, although a system of byes based on league level ensures higher ranked teams enter in later rounds – the minimum number of games needed to win the competition ranges from six to fourteen.

The first six rounds are the Qualifying Competition, from which 32 teams progress to the first round of the Competition Proper, meeting the first of the 48 professional teams from Leagues One and Two. The last entrants are the Premier League and Championship clubs, into the draw for the Third Round Proper.[2] In the modern era, only one non-league team has ever reached the quarter-finals, and teams below Level 2 have never reached the final.[note 1] As a result, as well as who wins, significant focus is given to those "minnows" (smaller teams) who progress furthest, especially if they achieve an unlikely "giant-killing" victory.
