Well Maclaren got offered a contract and turned it down to sit on a bench in Germany and Broich is still recovering from his second ankle operation and wouldn't be fit to play until after Christmas. So I'm struggling??

Well, no ones smashing brisbane and yes, Broich was told he might be/would be/could be offered a contract but the medical advice was to wait until after his ankle operation to see if it was a success. It wasn't so as sad as it is, it was just his time - that is the drawback with age, you can't get away with missing several months through injury

TALKING POINTS:
General
A Jets win will be their 100th in the A-League. The Jets have the same points and goal difference this season as they did after 2 rounds last year. There were 13 goals scored across the 3 fixtures between these clubs last year.
Players If Roy O'Donovan scores this weekend, he will become the first Jets player since Edson Montano to score in 3 consecutive appearances. Nikolai Topor-Stanley could make his 84th A-League appearance for the club, taking him to 9th overall, surpassing Joel Griffiths. Michael Theo hasn't kept a clean sheet against the Jets in his last 8 matches. Theo willalso play his 27th A-League match against the Jets, the 4th most of any opposition player against Newcastle. Ben Kantarovski and Roy O'Donovan both scored their 4th A-League goal for the Jets. This is the same number of goals Tarek Elrich, Enver Alivodic, Ali Abbas and Nikolai Topor-Stanley have scored for the club.
Newcastle Jets The Jets have kept just 1 clean sheet in the last 12 months. It has been 11 matches without keeping their opposition scoreless. Newcastle have never had more than 5 points after their opening 3 A-League fixtures. Newcastle have scored the first goal 3 times in the last 4 matches between these teams. However, the Jets have conceded the opening goal in their last 8 competitive fixtures (A-League and FFA Cup). Three Jets players have been booked in the last 6 matches.

I think you're right paulbagz. I don't look forward to the Jets game normally as it's one of the worst nights of the season but this looks promising.
