On the WSW forum they're speculating that it's because of some music festival as they said that they're starting to build an outdoor stage today, the game was scheduled for tomorrow. So, pitch in poor condition is a convenient excuse for a scheduling stuff up and would have been more plausible if the A-League hadn't played on horrendous pitches in the past.

Surely there are other suitable pitches around Sydney?

I hope the team hadn't made the trip over there. I know some supporters have tickets booked which obviously won't be refunded.

It's definitely the pitch. Sydney Showground put out a statement this morning pointing out that bump-in for the Sensation event doesn't start until Sunday:

To be fair, most of the RBB will probably be at the music festival anyway

The article says they have access today according to the technical producer of the event which can be also read here http://inthemix.junkee.com/sensation-australian-production/156269 in an article posted on Wednesday. We need a photo of the pitch.

Unless you have a photo of the pitch from yesterday, it wouldn't tell you anything. From Adam Peacock:

Am told it didn’t, the new grass is shot. They’ve bumped in early due to no game now.

Unless you have a photo of the pitch from yesterday I could say the same. I provided an source of Friday access as a quote of the technical director of the event prior to the known cancellation, you provided a tweet containing third hand information of an unknown source.

Which appears to have been an error by the publisher of that website. According to this article on Ticketbooth - which was linked to last night by the Sensation Australia Facebook page - set up was scheduled to start on Sunday:

“The setup will begin this Sunday with over 100 crew,” adds Technical Producer Arian Yeganeh.  “It will take us one week with perfect weather to build.”

There's also a statement on the Sensation Australia Facebook page:

ATT: Western Sydney Wanderers Fans.

Contrary to a few articles yesterday, the bump in of Sensation Australia starts this Sunday 19th November not today. Our production teams will not have access to Spotless Stadium until then.

The decision to postpone the football match between The Western Sydney Wanders and Wellington Phoenix tomorrow is solely due to concerns about the conditions of parts of the playing surface in Spotless Stadium not at all related to the setup of Sensation.

For more information visit: https://www.wswanderersfc.com.au/news/spotless-stadium-official-statement-wanderers-match-postponed

So there you go. Statements from the club, venue and the festival all stating that the postponement was unrelated to the festival.

It does pose a question though: Is the purpose of the A League for the game to be played or be watched?

This should be a serious competitive league. It is important games are played as they are fixtured. Trying to change the game time just so more people can attend goes against the spirit of a competitive league

But since the A League is already anti competitive and the fixturing is already rigged, in this case it is moot

Everything else happened after they got called out, and it looks too much like they are covering their backside unless we see a photo of the pitch looking unplayable.

Great question......

Except for the fact you wasted your time typing that because the festival is next week and we have an away game. Unless your stipulating that RBB members are part of the stage crew and would love the to start work on the saturday and earn some over time?

The Phoenix should start digging holes in westpac pitch so we can get more games postponed in the international window.

Or it could just be incompetence on the part of the author of the article at inthemix (since it appears to be a straight copy).

Let's just say that Sensation were originally allowed to bump in today. What benefit would they get from issuing a public denial which could be refuted by people around the Showgrounds precinct, when they could just as easily come out and refute the statements by WSW & the Showgrounds?

Apparently the music festival takes 7 days to bump in in good weather, but the next 5 days weather forecast is bad. So they were really pushing it on their original schedule.

Probably a bit of column A and a bit of Column B I think.

Can you image how much shit they would have copped if they just straight up said, they are postponing the WSW game because of a concert needs time to setup? It would have been WAY worse.

From the WSW forum:

Okay people. We may need to back off a little. I will be retracting part of my statements above.

I work in SOP and have just driven over to Spotless after I finished work today.

Everything was locked up so I couldn’t get close enough to get any decent photos but after I climbed up on a fence, I was able to see most of the pitch. There are huge brown patches all over it. It’s especially bad at the far end of the pitch and right in front of the RBB.

It wouldn’t be playable at all.

There is also no sign of any construction whatsoever. Nothing in the stadium at all. No trucks or anything around. Although I was pretty sure SOP wasn’t that stupid to allow an early bump-in now after they came out with that statement.

Maybe there’s no conspiracy but someone definitely ****ed up and the fact that the pitch isn’t ready is just not good enough. There should have been contingencies in place. Also, I’m sure we can all imagine what it is going to look like after a huge festival. I’ll be surprised if we can play on Dec. 2.

Can the Wanderers even be bothered playing this game? Still hasn't been rescheduled. Dicking with the fixture by being fast and loose with the reschedule would be called out as cheating in a legit league.

Maybe they're waiting out the season to see which teams they're competing with for a finals berth, with an eye to avoiding handing them a depleted phoenix and 3 easy points.

@ Bohemia

The ffa will be trying to reschedule this and it won’t be that easy - the biggest issue will be Nixs travel so they’ll be looking for an available date when Nix are playing in NSWs, then they need the stadium available, then it has to fit with whatever games Nix have before/after the rescheduled date.

Rescheduled A league games are always difficult because the travelling side often objects, I remember the year the Roar/Victory game was rained off and Victory refused every alternative date suggested so we ended up playing them st home on the weekend (Saturday I think) then having the rescheduled home game against them four days later. Victory were happy as it fitted their travel, fans not so ..

Most Brisbane fans were just relieved the FFA didn’t make us replay the match at AAMI Park such was the FFAs love for Victory back then ... recon they fell out of love with you when you all laughed at Frank falling off the stage 😉
