Mooy, Kagawa and Son have been nominated for the AFC player of the year.
You'd think Mooy would have the best claim with his promotion and national team efforts. I don't recall Kagawa doing much while Son is in and out of the Spurs team.

Did he really get that many? I'm not saying he's had a bad season. The CL factor plus he did a lot in qualifying for the WC makes his claim very strong. Mooy also has strong claims.

This is one that's hard to argue against and Son winning is totally worthy but the FIFA 11 with Iniesta for last year was a farce when the previous 12 months were the ones being considered.

Mooy won't win it because he spent half of this year in a 2nd division while Son has been banging in goals for Tottenham. Some might say that is unfair but you have to count the quality of opposition in things like this.

Yeah... he has definitely been the best in the past 12 months in which they are adjudicating the award on. No question.

Just double checked, it was 14 last season apparently, 21 in all competitions. Scored an important goal against Manchester City this year. As well as goals against Burnley, Swansea (big last minute goal to keep us in the title race), two goals against Watford, a goal against Bournemouth, two goals against Leicester, six goals in the FFA Cup. Goals this season against Liverpool and Palace, big goal against Dortmund in the Champions League. He has now scored more PL goals than any other South Korean, and any Asian player (of course not including Australians in this category).

If Mooy was South Korean and Son was Australian the idea that Mooy could win would not be mentioned. It is not even close, Son wins this with daylight second.

Son, no doubt about it, way in front of Mooy comparing apples with apples last 12mths. Even though Mooy contributed greatly for Hudders gaining promo Son in the top league was in a Spurs team vying for the title.

Mooy in with a chance.

Unfortunately for Mooy the criteria didn't start this season and Son was playing brilliantly for a top team while he was in the championship. There is just no way he'll win.

The awards are on right now I believe. Kerr is player of the year. AFC youtube should have a livestream.

Son won the AFC international of the year which must be Mooy's category. Khrbin from Syria won AFc player of the year which must mean person playing in the confederation. South Korea won both youth player awards. Japanese coaches took out the coaching awards. China and Iran FA got the grassroots inspiring category while Singapore and Vietnam won the grassroots developing and Bhutan Afghanistan the grassroots aspiring. Japan FA got the dream Asia award.

Have read/heard four separate stories this morning about Sam Kerr winning the women's player of the year, but Mooy and Ange missing out in their catagories... And I'm thinking, what has Ange done to get him anywhere close to Asian coach of the year this year? Taken the champions of Asia to 5th place in Asian qualifying..? Tough circumstances they may be, but jeez... It doesn't look great.
