If they were successful in buying the Phoenix: - Would they had attempted to move the club to the Southern NSW region?
- If so, would that mean no more NZ in our league?

Phoenix should take the cash and use it to set up a big bash team.

Phoenix are going to get booted eventually. Might as well get paid out by their replacement rather than wait to have their licence inevitably pulled.

FFA would never approve it. They make good business pulling licenses then reselling them. If they allowed the transfer of the license and relocation of the team they would be cutting themselves out of the moolah.

Also it's a load of crap that the stadium has been approved. Under the NSW planning system nothing is really approved until it is under construction. Compared to Vic/SA and presumably other planning systems, in NSW the proposal and approval stage are part of one big staged process. All they have is in principle support to the idea of possibly build a something.

Was rumored a couple of weeks ago, the rumor was also that the Phoenix said "no" outright.
I doubt the Phoenix are going anywhere, Rob Morrison is one of the two representatives of the A-League clubs who are negotiating with the FFA about moving forwards, it's clear that the clubs are completely behind them being in the competition.

The one thing NZ has got going for it, is its time slot suits fox sports ability to fill the early game without players cooking themselves in an Australian summer. Anyway if a consortium is willing to spend $7m to purchase another club why don't the FFA just pull the trigger, take the $7m fee as a bond and announce them as the next franchise side ffs.
Have them based in Cronulla until they sort out the stadium situation and we're off and racing.

Phoenix only said no because the offer was to low, They wanted around $9m to $10 million for the squatters fee.

We need more clubs not a rehash of the current clubs.

Thank fuck neither of those guys accepted this ridiculous offer. Again this is just a backdoor for a chinese developer to get around australian law, this has nothing to do with football. Southern expansion is a joke of an organisation, and I hope they never get anything off the ground. The stadium proposal is one of the stupidest pieces of infrastructure I've ever seen anyone put forward. Phoenix will go eventually as well but they won't be allowed to sell their license to another party and relocate the club, the FFA will make sure they get the license fee, as they should. Generally in these licenses there are clauses which prevent owners from relocating teams anyway.

+xWe need more clubs not a rehash of the current clubs. Its farcical that we have investors ready and waiting to fund a Sydney side (exactly what the FFA want) yet they can't get a licence.

Im somewhat prepared to wait for the right progress though. In saying that my patience is wearing thin.

Wolves too far south from their real target unfortunately which is the Hurstville area where there is a massive influx of high rises and property development.
If they cut out Wollongong from their bid, they could probably get buy in from most of the people here.

It will be interesting to see how this bid goes forward with the Chinese government trying to curb Chinese investment in foreign real estate and entertainment.

+xdidn't SMH try to buy CCM a couple of years ago? I dont think Charlesworth will sell before the league is independent. It wouldnt surprise me if he is holding out to move the team to Northern Sydney.

It wouldnt surprise me if he is holding out to move the team to Northern Sydney. Seeing as the team is the basis for attracting government funding of the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence development he would be insane to move the team anywhere or sell the team off.

Charlesworth has also denied that there was any approach. Another swing and a miss by the covert agent.
