Sydney FC marquee Milos Ninkovic has made a plea to fans to show up to their FFA Cup final on home soil to help the Sky Blues claim their first silverware of the season.

Sydney FC are enduring a lacklustre season in terms of attendances that's reflective of a broader drop in interest in the A-League. Aside from a derby against Western Sydney Wanderers that did not sell out, the Sky Blues biggest home crowd of the season was little over 11,500 when they hosted Newcastle Jets last weekend and there is little indication the FFA Cup final will attract a significant crowd on Tuesday night.

FFA sources are predicting a crowd of just 12,000 will witness the first cup final in the city since Parramatta Melita beat Sydney United in the NSL Cup in 1993.

Sydney FC pressured the FFA to gain hosting rights for the final, having played the decider away to Melbourne City last year, and receiving tough luck over the past two seasons of the competition that provided them with only one home draw in 10 games.

Despite early ticket sales suggesting Allianz Stadium will be well below half its capacity on Tuesday night, Ninkovic urged all Sydney FC fans to make the trip to Moore Park to be part of what could be a historic night for the Sky Blues.

"I know it's a Tuesday night and it's going to maybe be too late for kids but we need support," he said. "We have never won this trophy and we want to win this trophy with our fans to celebrate like we did in the [A-League] grand final."

The Serbian midfielder said there is little chance Sydney can create more records than the plethora of new benchmarks they set last season but a potential treble will make 2017-18 more memorable. While a premiership and a championship remain a long way off, the club is top of the table in the A-League and confident of adding an FFA Cup title to their trophy cabinet in what will be the first completed target for the season.

"It's very hard to repeat last year to make all these records but if we win three trophies this year, we will be better than last year. It's as simple as that," he said

Instead, around 12,000 will “cram” into SFS making the whole spectacle an embarrassment for the code.

Playing only 1 game at home is what happens when you draw Non A-league teams most of the time.

All the pressure is on Sydney in this match.  

MV only pulled 15k to their final and that was on a weekend. If we get close to that I'll be happy enough. Quit your whinging Waz.

Such a poor look for a 'big' club to be literally begging people to turn up - tinpot organisation who continually fails to engage with their community.

Ffa in typical fashion, were charging  $40 for the cheapest ticket. That's why no one turned up.

I agree. What made it worse is that Melbourne City, the club that Victory fans claim they are so far ahead of, got 3k more than they did.

Perth, Adelaide, Mariners, Jets (and Maybe Melbourne) should all get hosting rights over Brisbane and Sydney unless the latter two can offer up a smaller stadium.

While SFC can be embarrassed about a pitiful turnout tonight I doubt Brisbane would have done any better.

Please someone tell me it wouldn’t have been better played at Hindmarsh tonight, even 12k would look/sound good.

TBH I have no care what others think just liking to stir wazza - I love being in Allianz for I'm not sardined and 15k on a weeknight is pretty good imo.
The cameras will zoom in only where the crowd is for you nay sayers worried how it looks on Fox but the best thing is that were there watching it live :)

You reckon? This cup has limited appeal among a league fans. Im aware Adelaide sold out their final, but that was a first shot at silverware in several years. Similarly, i reckon Sydney would have pulled around 20k if he hosted the final last year.

The pax numbers are quite good so maybe a decent crowd tonight. This is despite the newspapers ignoring it.
