Figured It would be easier to monitor the rumors, stories and opinions about the new Socceroos coach in one thread. So far the Australian candidates/Rumours are Milicic, Muscat, Poppa, Arnie, The international ones are Klinsman, Slavoljub Muslin, Lauren Blanc, Ancellotti, De Biasi, Bielsa

Besides Ancelotti and Blanc, whom we have zero chance of getting, none of the international names being bandied about are terribly exciting. I think we should accept and welcome Arnold as our new overlord. He is dead set the best option of anyone seriously mentioned so far. I really wish they'd hurry up and appoint him already.

If we get a god international coach and I hope we do, then we need to sign him on until after the Asian Cup 2019. Need a good result in Russia, and then continue that momentum to go out and defend/win the Asian Cup.
Ange did that with the Socceroos. Hiddink left after the 06 world cup, and left it to Arnold for the 07 Asian Cup and we probably should have progressed a little further with the quality of the squad that we had then.
Achieve something that is achievable. (finish 2nd in our WC group) and win something that is winnable (the Asian Cup) :)

Dunno why Hiddink isn't getting mentioned. He's been there and done it, knows the board, familiar with australian football etc. He does the same thing for chelsea everythime they lose there manager. We could easily get him now too. No Brainer for mine. If we go the Long term aussie appointment it simply has to be Arnold. Personally i'd prefer we hired Hiddink to manage until the Asian cup and then Arnie after that.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trainer/verfuegbaretrainer/statistikMany available previous club managers. Recently seen many club managers taken a successful step up to international football so I'd be willing to at least consider some of these names. Some interesting options there too who I am sure would be open to the prospect of coaching at a World Cup.

Van Gaal is free. It's not like I'm searching for Dutch coaches on purpose but they do have some interesting ones. Mirko Slomka is good for fast, counter attacks but would never move to Australia.

The contract is 1.5m per year. FFA probably delaying the signing till Feb to get a 6/12 month contract for up until the World Cup or Asian Cup only to save on some coin...

Hopefully: https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/socceroos/socceroos-coach-ange-postecoglou-replacement-marcelo-bielsa-latest-saudi-arabia-hire-coach/news-story/4eeee8ad16383c7e3422bfed02a327d6?&nk=9ace06e2cdf5d3f26977fecf40116ba9-1512477446Otherwise there's surely some more decent International candidates out there, aside from Laurent Blanc and Christoph Daum, whose correspondences with the FFA have been more under wraps. The FFA have set aside time and the expert panel should be browsing plenty of interested candidates. Of the local options, Gombau is the best candidate but it will be hard on the Wanderers to lose their new coach soo soon after appointing him from the same former employer.
