It needs to go now, FFA volunteered to be one of the first to try this bullshit just so they can pretend like the rest of the world gives a shit when in reality they don't. I distinctly remember an article mentioning the several countries that are trialing this and guess what Australia was not mentioned. "Several countries are trialing video technology, including France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States." http://www.insideworldfootball.com/2017/11/29/exclusive-fifa-look-set-railroad-video-refs-russia-2018/

The best thing they can do (other than scrapping it entirely until the standard of refereeing improves) is to limit the use of the VAR to decisions on goals that can be made with objective judgement, like whether the ball crossed the line (like on Friday night) or whether the goalscorer was offside. For open play and off-the-ball incidents, the game needs to continue and the VAR should not be able to stop the game arbitrarily especially if there is going to be double standards and misjudgements. Just get on with the game and leave it to decisions on goals when there is already a break in play.

And how does that help us right now?
Should never have been implemented beyond goal-line tech and maybe behind the play issues.

Just get on with the game and leave it to decisions on goals when there is already a break in play. This exactly. Each team gets to appeal a maximum of 3 times each. A VAR should be limited to only when a goal is scored (like when there is doubt from an offside or goal line perspective), and maybe to challenge when a dodgy penalty is awarded in the box. Nothing else. Using it for open play like they are now is madness. It's so damn obvious. FFS

@ kavorka
The appeal concept is based on the same flawed logic that brought the VAR in in the first place. It assumes there is a clear right and wrong in decisions, there’s isn’t. Not always at least.
Let’s say we had a 3 appeal system this season:
- in yesterday’s match Adelaide appeal the penalty. But the VAR agrees with the referee and the penalty stands. How has the appeal system worked?
- Sydney v Roar where Brosque handles the bell just before crossing for the penalty. Let’s say Roar appeal that, the VAR looked at it then and under appeal would do the same thing. How has the appeal system helped??
An appeal process changes nothing. The VAR has no place in football. No place.

It’s not going to be scrapped. It’s going to be used in the FA Cup next month, and will likely be used in the English, German, Italian and Spanish leagues next season, so it isn’t going anywhere.
It’s sad because off the top of my head tennis is the only sport that has really benefited from video technology.

"The VAR is set to be introduced in more global leagues around the world next year and it is a case of getting it right rather than walking away from the trial"
So quit fucking lying to us.
This is not a trial.
You introduced it and have no intention to stop using it, no matter how well it performs. This isn't a fucking trial. You foisted it on us with a week's notice with the sole intent of using this shit forever. That's not a trial, it's being impulsive, impatient decision makers who have no qualms about dropping untested useless rubbish on us and assuming we're too dumb to notice and too weak to oppose it.
Fix the problems over night - get rid of the thing. We don't want it. If you want it, we don't want you.

They introduced it during a season and it's frustrating hearing people say they can't take it away half way through one...
I watched a Juventus/Napoli last Sunday morning and not one mention of var by the commentators, not one appeal by the crowd or players or coaches, it did not get used once!! You didn't even know it existed!

Why didn't that WP player get a yellow for running up to the ref and calling VAR yesterday?

I'm almost certain there would be some stipulation that it has to be shown x amount of times before maccas stumps up cash.

It has to be trialled. I hate it but a shit season or two to prove it sucks I can live with. The A-League is balls right now anyway so may as well trial it now. Anyway, no way ffa are going to get rid of this FIFA concept with FIFA currently breathing down their necks and if FIFA do step into aus football it will be here to stay for the foreseeable future.

It was said with goal line technology the cost was $1000 per match Would be interesting to see what this fuck up is costing the league, and what % is offset by McDonalds / FIFA The FFA couldn't rush it into our game fast enough

+x+xJust fuck it off, we don't have to have it. -PB Football was doing just fine without it. Yeah nah. Do you not remember all the raging and whinging and bitching and moaning from every man Jack every Monday because peanuts cannot understand that the referee is not a robot and cannot be everywhere on the field at once. The VAR is a result of all of the above. Anyone bitching now has to have a good hard look at themselves because sure as eggs 99% of whingers here are guilty. And I'd say more than half don't even know the laws correctly. The only blokes I can remember on this forum consistently sticking up for referees is a sorely missed Glory supporter that ran by the name of Nate. And myself. (There might be one or two others I've missed but it'd be less than the fingers on one hand.) Everyone whinged about the referees and when they said, fuck it, here's a system, everybody blew a gasket. And I'm not sticking up for the VAR. I'd fuck it off tomorrow and bring in a 'respect' campaign for the refs.
