Cyclone Gita: Air New Zealand cancels flights in and out of Wellington

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told reporters that military had been deployed to areas likely to be worst hit and the country's national Civil Defence and Emergency Management office in Wellington was on standby to help local authorities.

No joke, live in Europe where you're not surrounded by Australian accents and observe. It becomes so British. You're so self conscious that the lazy australian pronunciation might confuse second language speakers so you tread carefully. You learn then that half the Australian accent is psychological. First stint I did in Europe I didn't encounter any aussies for 12 months. Then I had an Australian roomie move in. First time I saw him we shook hands and I said "gday mate" and when I heard myself I was like "good god what the fuck was that!"

I have 0 contact with Australians and worked many years with a Londoner. I also avoid ex pat pubs. 

You get so sick of repeating yourself and have to stop talking through your nose, use sentences and move your jaw and lips when you talk. The way you speak changes. I can still talkout of my nose with out moving my lips though. And drop the "eh". "Heaps good eh?". 

So Brits think I am Australian, Australians think I am British and locals also think I am British.
