Confirmed: Van Marwijk's six outs in Caltex Socceroos 26-man squadAustralia, this is the 26-man Caltex Socceroos squad Bert van Marwijk has named to head to Turkey for a pre-FIFA World Cup training camp. With all-time leading goalscorer Tim Cahill included in the extended squad, there is also room for Hyundai A-League hotshot Daniel Arzani and Lokomotiva Zagreb right back Fran Karacic. Arzani and Karacic are the only two new faces to make the cut as van Marwijk reduced the squad from 32 players. This means there is no room for Jamie Maclaren, Apostolos Giannou, Alex Gersbach and Mitchell Langerak. Two players from van Marwijk’s first ever squad for March friendlies against Norway and Colombia have also been informed they have not been selected – Bailey Wright and Aleksandar Susnjar. “It is always a challenging task to reduce a squad, however this is the nature of professional sport at the highest level,” explained van Marwijk. “Overall, I believe we have named a strong and ambitious squad for our training camp in Turkey and friendly against Czech Republic in Austria.” The players will now join up for pre-FIFA World Cup training camp in the coastal town of Antalya, Turkey commencing 20 May. Following the Friday 1 June friendly against Czech Republic, van Marwijk will then reduce the squad again to the final 23 by Sunday 3 June. Name

JMac should be pissed. He will miss the Asian Cup when Arnie selects Matt Simon as well.
Cahill, Troisi and one of Brillante/Risdon to be cut from here for mine. But we know Cahill is on the plane after special orders from FFA so maybe just the other three?

+xsusjnar, gersbach, maclaren or borello who did his acl wonder who is the most unlucky? Susjnar and Gersbach probably aren't ready anyway JMac got stitched up because there's no way Cahill is actually deserving of his place on form or playing time. Borello hurting his knee is unlucky. Hope he makes a full recovery. I reckon he wouldve been looking at taking Ruka's spot in the team (genuinely can't believe he'll actually be going tbh)

How does Ruka and Troisi make it lol.Legend of the roos ,but Cahill shouldn't be in that squad time is up hasn't earned his spot on merit.64 minutes in 6 months and then gets suspended for last 3 games we have plenty of experience in the squad.Rather give his spot to Maclaren.

Cahill is the exception. He's going to retire from the national team after this. His presence and experience will be so valuable in the camp.
I'm annoyed Maclaren isn't in. Gersbach and Susnjar have time.
Troisi still has something there I feel. Just something a bit more than Rukavytsya.

I never use this word but Cahill going over McLaren is shamefull. If Cahill is the legend so many think he is, he should withdraw out of embarassment so that McLaren can take his place. What's the plan, we gonna tike timmmmmmy to Qatar, too?

I'm more annoyed how Maclaren got dropped ahead of Rukavytsya, Troisi and Brillante. We'd want one extra striker to throw on if needed. Cahill and Juric are definitely going.

Cahill has just posted a video of all his great Australian goals. Seeing all of it just confirms how vital he is on and off the pitch. His whole personal branding is annoying and I wish he'd cut it out. From the football he's always delivered. He'll do it one final time.

So at least one of Troisi, Rukavytsya, Brillante or Risdon will be going to the World Cup.
In my opinion that's ludicrous. No way in the world they deserve selection over Maclaren, or even Wright.

If he makes the squad and remains on the bench the entire campaign, it would nearly confirm he is there on request.

Also the omission of both Wright and Susnjar is a big call, could be potentially a bit light on for centre backs?

I seriously can't believe how Maclaren has been left out. He's the only Australian striker who would constantly be in the race for golden boot with the foreign strikers in the A-league, and now at Hibs he's scored more for his club than any other striker we have. Also Brillante isn't a fucking defender so why mention him as one. There is so many things wrong with this squad and I bet we'll see players playing out of position because the manager and his assistants fucked up in their selections. Cahill also shouldn't be there. Yes it's great to have experience in the team but not if that means a bloke couldn't even get 1 start for his club in the championship. Fair enough if he was playing a game here and there but he did fuck all.

Cut for Macca. He did everything right in the last few months. Should have at least seen him in training.
Also with the Calex promo, it's pretty clear what the FFA want.

Feel for JMac. Cut Brillante, Troisi and Milligan. Just looking at games to goal stats and whatever you think about '#legacy' Cahill's recording is pretty amazing.

Somewhat disappointed for Giannou, looked decent these past few months albeit in Cyprus. Could cause problems linking up with Kruse/Rogic. Unfortunately, that sort of speaks volumes about our stocks at the moment.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

+xhow come people aren't question milligan? He was very average with victory and now playing in an average league if troisi is going to cop it he should as well Milligan, utility player, can play midfield and defence, is the only reason that can explain his selection, cause he ain't special Troisi , yeah, he is surplus to requirements with this squad. I still have no confidence on where the goals will come from

PS: Also looking forward to Matt Ryan dropping to his knees when confronted with a one on one only to have the ball blasted over his head.

I read elsewhere that the preliminary list is submitted to FIFA for the purpose of advising those players who will be selected in the event of injury to the final listed (23) players for the tournament. I cannot now find that, or anything like it. Could anyone else advise whether this is correct or not. Suggests that JMac "hanging up his boots" for the summer is a bit premature.
