Its more likely that BVM's picked the squad he thinks will do best with his system. My understanding is he is on a performance based contract with bonuses if we progress, not dependent on how well the sponsors/FFA/TV ratings/*insert any other 'metric' here that suits your argument* do.

Why would he give a rats about anything the sponsors want? He leaves at the end of our WC participation either way. Surely his only focus is on getting the best outcome for the tournament.

I already pointed Timmy's efforts in the Syria game to this peanut in a Cahill bashing thread a week ago. Obviously his comprehension skills aren't too crash hot. When will the morons who are so hell bent on taking down our greatest ever socceroo (because his apparent arrogance is so offensive to them) realise that this is the same guy who was our top scorer in qualifying? How many other teams  (let alone ones with such a dearth of goal scoring talent as us) would have such an outcry over the inclusion of their top goal scorer through qualification. Your life savings on the line, 10 to go against Peru it's nil all - who do you bring on? But... but.... club minutes??? But... but... but .... he's arrogant? But... but... but... young player's spot (didn't know we were using the world cup as a development tournament again?).

The more I look at this squad I can't help but think and hope that BVM has got Jedi pegged as a CB. We've got an overload of midfielders and seem light on in central defence with only Sains, Jurman and arguably Degenek as the CB's. Jedi is more a CB option that Milligan IMO but thats about it 

Also having Jedi as a CB option might also make room for another attacker to fit in to the squad.

If Karacic and Risdon make the cut, you'd think Brillante is gone with 2 of Troisi, Petratos, Milligan, Arzani, Nabbout, Ruka to go.

Bit of a different situation. Archie wasn't criticised as an individual per se, rather as part of a collective, being one of the several older players that many felt we're getting in the way of national team regeneration that had should begun years prior. Ange made the controversial decision to make drastic changes in order for us to be successful in the 2015 Asian Cup. As a result, many players, including, but not limited to Archie, missed out when they probably didn't deserve to on their form at the time. 

The reasons cited makes sense (even if they conflict directly with any argument to keep Cahill in this time) but I was more referring to his detractors at the time, especially the unforgivable chant he was subjected to by Sydney and other fans that absolutely did criticise him as an individual.

I distinctly remember when he came on in the Iraq game he got a massive cheer. I really liked Archie when playing for the Roos.
