No doubt the pro AFL media do protect the sport as much as they can. It's definitely not an even and fair playing ground. The only problem and difference football has is when it happens it is a premeditated and thought out attack on opposition supporters.

Meh
Our game has more pressing issues than trying to fight afl. Look after your own backyard first before you start flinging shit over the fence

No arrests made? Clearly not enough riot police nearby at the footy.

AFL struggling for relevance in NSW...
The article talks of men and women in the brawl. At least it was inclusive :)

+x+xLegit wasn't even aware the AFL had started. God damn I love living in the rugby league bubble. I say the same thing about living in the 21st century in Victoria and not getting my news from 20th century sources. I stopped watching FTA news bulletins almost 20 years ago and went sbs + print + internet only. I can count the number of times I've been stuck watching 10/7 news and it's every time I visit the olds. It's terrifying. Like I never missed anything in 20 years. The exact same "news" as I last remember it. Some random crap about a state or federal concession that saves you $5 a week. New research shows one glass of red wine a day prevents cancer. It rained and some shop owner had water in his shop. Servo held up. Adelaide Crows/Port Adelaide player does something amazing or something terrible that's not so bad. Sometimes they report it from Mount Lofty, for no other reasons that they can say "I'm at Mount Lofty". People legit watch this every day their whole lives. Another thing that's funny is they have this once in a blue moon "wow" story in Adelaide. It's a shop premises in Norwood. In its cellar it has an underground tunnel from when they built over a creek that runs through the suburb. Every year someone moves in to the shop and "discovers" it, and it's reported as amazing news each time. I just googled it and... http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/messenger/east-hills/cafe-owner-uncovers-historic-tunnel-and-bridge-underneath-the-parade-at-norwood/news-story/63db7d62e8891eaa039feb0f1a0020e1Well fuck me, someone "discovered" a tunnel again.

Wow..I had no idea about that ! ....no wonder AFL has such a protected status ! ....that is so corrupt and against all normal moral and legal practices ..As I have never heard of it since , I assume it was all quietly swept under a rug and is still happening today ?

My parents always watched the 7pm ABC news and before I left I started getting them to watch sbs at 6:30 for the international perspective as well beforehand. Missed out on the sbs sports coverage but whatever, they were already watching football constantly. The problem was I convinced the old man when I was teenager to switch from an Age subscription to the Australian because I was sick of the sports coverage being 8 pages of AFL and wanted more league and football stuff. Didn't realise at the time that the rest of it was full of utter shite.

It's probably not a huge issue since newspapers are going the way of the dodo anyway, but it's disappointing. Even a lot of the online news is utter crap these days - clickbait nonsense. I enjoy reading the ABC News online but even then some of the crap they allow to be published is astounding. The odd occasion that I do actually sit down and watch the news, it's always SBS.

They'll never go to print in Australia which is a shame purely on the fact that we could use their sport section sitting on a few cafe tables around Melbourne.

Guardian sport is top notch for their sport coverage - I tend to stay away from the rest of the site as I feel it's controversial for the sake of being controversial 80% of the time aha. But agreed, their sport coverage is excellent - I love getting a proper analysis about both football and cricket (not jingoistic nonsense that you get elsewhere) from them.

Hahaha. 12 years in Brisbane and it never ceased to amaze me how much content they could find to put the Broncos on the front page of the Courier Mail. Wait until Origin time, you'll be in Dante's 7th circle of hell. I was there when Lockyer was captain. He could've scratched his arse and it would've been front page.

They should be tagging in those Vic Pol scum suckers in all of this after they called football fans "terrorists" like the VFL mouth piece cocksuckers that they are.
