Thought it be easier to post the independent a league articles and discussion to this thread. So far, we have Nix saying they are staying in the league. And we’re being told we’re getting a second division

You're being told you're getting a second division by Krayem who is the front for the second division concept. Nobody else is saying this and he doesn't get a vote or even a seat. The only hope for something like a vote is years down the track and that isn't for the second division it's proposed for the NPL, which isn't the second division.
When the State Feds or the FFA or the APFCA or PFA say there is going to be second division then perk up and pay attention. When FOX or OPTUS say there is going to be a second division then it's starting to get real.

Maybe now we don't have to play in stupid big stadiums, we can play at smaller venues to suit the crowds.

Another interesting one on league independence - will Westfield still be sponsoring the W-League?

Any one know if this is the case for sure? I guess it's one of those open questions. Clubs might have to take on funding of it 100%. As Gyfox was saying above, the independent A-League might open up new revenue opportunities, but at the same time, they take on all the costs.

Regardless, the Westfield crew aren't going to be on the FFA board. We'll see if Steven has the games best interests at heart.

Most of the W-League teams play under the umbrella of an A-League club (there is only one W-League club where that doesn't happen). So it's a bit disingenuous to argue that they are two completely different animals. At the moment, the FFA would be subsidising the W-League from consolidated revenue (and most of that is coming from the TV rights). As soon as the independent A-League takes full control of what it considers to be its revenue, the FFA might turn around and say, ok, you now fund your own W-League teams.

My understanding is that independence will cover A-league, W-league and Y-league. I have heard that from multiple sources on various Podcasts.

Just re-read the section in the CRWG report which states "It is agreed and recommended by the CRWG that the following actions, principles and timings be incorporated into the pathway and process for the development of an alternative/new A-League governance model for professional leagues football in Australia (and incorporating the W-League and Y-League) governance model:......"

The start of the resolution was:- "A New Leagues Working Group (NLWG) will be established to: (a) Consider and propose an Alternate A-League Governance Model for the Professional Australian Leagues, comprising of the A-League, W-League and the Y-League." and while I am quoting:- "New governance model must - achieve appropriate financial arrangements and distributions to serve the interests of the Australian football stakeholders, including State Bodies;"

Source please. I view Clause 6 as being unjust. I understand the reasons for exclusion but do not agree with them. It is a gerrymander. This may end up being years away from resolution. I hope I am wrong.

I hope I am wrong. I think that clause was added in to get the support of all the state federations at the last minute. It does mean that nobody can complain about the structure of an independent A-league as the clubs don't get to vote on it.

They'll pull their sponsorship, just like they did with the FFA Cup They pulled their sponsorship out of the FFA Cup and increased their sponsorship of the Matildas and W-League. I wouldn't expect that the Westfields sponsorship will go anywhere soon. The chairman of the Board is a football man and Steve Lowy is a director.

The international arm of Westfields was sold off last year and the Lowys ended up with some cash and about 4% of the shares of the purchaser.

I hope I am wrong. I understand that it was offered by the clubs to get the members of the CRWG to agree on their report and thats why it got into Resolution 2. When you look at the whole resolution theres no way that anyone can have any certainty at this stage about what the governance structure will be and certainly the expectation of it looking like the EPL is premature.
