Surely the selection panel should have sat in a spirit circle chanting Eastern African shamanic songs whilst looking for the most prosperous chakra amongst prospective candidates?

Looks like a few new call ups to the matildas have already been made. A bunch of players stajcic had never selected.

Not sure what to make of this, has experience with the national set up but has never really set the world on fire, I would have thought if they were going the "interim coach" route for the biggest tournament in the World, one we have a shot of actually winning mind you, they would have got someone with World Cup pedigree and/or a proven track record at international level ? or they could take one for the team and reinstate the guy who got them there, oh wait that could be seen as an admission they got it wrong.

With the mens national teams not the womens. Its kick in the face to every W-League coach and to the womans game as a whole that they think the best replacement is someone with no experience in the womans game. If they wanted an interim coach go for a W-League coach past or present.

Any top 4 w league coach would have been a better choice in the interim.

Honestly, if they wanted to get rid of Stajcic, they should have done it post WC. Perfect timing win or lose. Win, everyone can say he wanted to go on a high. Lose, a full review can be done and our WC campaign would not have been disrupted. I guess someone didn't want him going to the WC...

Why would Milicic take this on ? He has to come in and learn, the players capabilities and how to deal with females in a sporting environment . All in a matter of a few months .
More importantly he also has to learn how to deal with a team environment where players have same sex relationships within the team . I very much doubt he has had this problem before in men's football. Good luck Ante.....

Ante Milicic is probably a nice guy, but he has no women's football experience as far as I am aware. How much does he know about the players? Presumably he will just rely on GVE as a starting point?

+xWhy not get a woman to coach the Women's team? Maybe because there is not one available and willing who is good enough. However it should be a coach who is experienced in women's football.

+xWhy not get a woman to coach the Women's team? That was originally the whole idea, but now that it has hit the fan, they need a man so they can try to pretend it wasn't.

Does anyone else find it strange that everything leaks from the FFA (Stajcic sacking, reviews, the fact Nikou is angry, potential new coach) except for the actual evidence as to what Stajcic did to deserve to be sacked. A cynic might think that there actually is no evidence to leak....

Because as much as women hate seeing a man in charge, they hate working for a woman even more. That's my experience of working in an female environment for 16 years and look what happened the last time they had a female Coach.

Serious question - would anyone have a problem with a coach who only had female football coaching experience, getting a gig as a males team coach?
That comment about same sex relationships is nonsense. A coach has to manage all sorts of personalities, egos and player relationships regardless of gender. Who’s more difficult to manage, two people in a loving, committed relationship or Ljubo and Archie getting out on the piss for away games????

You have Andreatta(Brisbane), Garriock(Canberra) and Dower(Canberra now Young Matildas) as the 3 leading female contenders. I would agree that none of them are ready to coach the senior matildas at this point in time. There are a few in the ntc system that are showing potential also.

What if its not a loving committed relationship though and its just sleeping around, or what if the people doing that had ex partners in the team as well. It would be extremely difficult to manage.

Good luck Ante. https://matildas.footballaustralia.com.au/news/ante-milicic-confirmed-new-head-coach-westfield-matildas-fifa-world-cup-2019-cup-of-nationsFootball Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that experienced Australian coach Ante Milicic will lead the Westfield Matildas at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. ... FFA Chairman, Mr Chris Nikou, believes Milicic will bring tremendous qualities to the post. “Ante [Milicic] has been involved in Australian football at the elite level for many years,” Nikou said. “While he is highly regarded from a technical standpoint, he is also exceptionally knowledgeable in the development and implementation of high-performance football environments, and understands the Australian sporting and football culture. ... FFA Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Gallop AM, said that Milicic stood out from a high-calibre list of applicants keen to secure the prestigious position. “There was no shortage of exceptional Australian and international applicants interested in this elite role. Ante’s intimate involvement with our National Teams Unit over the past five years ensured that he will commence the position with a clear understanding of the systems in place, and with sound relationships with key technical, backroom, and administrative staff already forged. “Additionally, Ante is acutely aware of the level of detail required to prepare for and compete at a FIFA World Cup, as well as the demands that will come from not only the players, but many important stakeholders including the media, commercial partners, FIFA, and FFA. Having experienced two men’s World Cups in the past, that gives us confidence that Ante will be able to deal with the demands and lead the group with distinction,” Gallop said.
