Here is a simple FAQ to help you out in these forums, and possibly alert you to new features you may not known have existed.

*Note, remove the * in the examples to get the desired effect

Basic text formatting
[*b]text[/b] for bold
[*i]text[/i] for italic
[*u]text[/u] for underline
[*spoiler]spoiler[/spoiler] for [spoiler]spoiler[/spoiler]

Quoting
[*quote][/quote] stylises a bit of text that someone else wrote so other forum users know exactly to what you're responding to.
Quote:
This is a quote

It is best used by specifying who you are actually quoting by using [*quote=The Web Guy][/quote]
The Web Guy wrote:
This is a quote from The Web Guy

It is also most useful when responding to someone a few posts prior to yours. There is no need for endless quotes on quotes, since that is what separate threads are for, separate and distinct discussion.

Images
To display an image either in your post, or in your signature, you must first have uploaded and currently hosting the image somewhere on the Internet.
When that's all done, you wrap the url to the image in [*img][/img] tags.
e.g. [*img]http://au.fourfourtwo.com/images/442-tube_300x95.jpg[/img] will give you:

Resizing Images
For the benefit of everyone please avoid stretching pages by resizing images larger than 700 pixels wide. Copy + Paste the following in front of your image URL, and insert into the image tags.
http://i.haymarket.net.au/Utils/ImageResizer.ashx?w=700&h=1000&n=
e.g. [*img]http://i.haymarket.net.au/Utils/ImageResizer.ashx?w=700&h=700&n=http://www.image.jpg[/img]

URLs
There are three ways to represent urls in these forums.
1. Simply writing out the url will automatically make it a link, i.e. http://au.fourfourtwo.com
2. [*url]http://au.fourfourtwo.com[/url] = http://au.fourfourtwo.com
3. [*url=http://au.fourfourtwo.com]FourFourTwo Australia[/url] = FourFourTwo Australia

YouTube
To embed YouTube videos into your postu, obtain the video value from the YouTube URL and paste it within [*youtube][/youtube] tags. The video value is the 11-character alphanumeric code immediately after v= in a YouTube URL.
e.g. From http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tr1COa9VIg you type [*youtube]2tr1COa9VIg[/youtube] which will create:
[youtube]2tr1COa9VIg[/youtube]

At the top of the forum, you will find a number of useful links:
Inbox - Takes you straight to your PM inbox where you can view all your received private messages.
Search - Search the forums for a topic you'd like to view again. Note, it is generally frowned upon to resurrect threads older than 3 months. Best to start a new thread.
Active topics - A very useful tool. This lists all the topics based on criteria that you set. It defaults to show all topics since your last visit, but you can also set it to show the topics from the last hour, day, etc.
Members - View the member list, where you can sort by posts, rank, and other things. From here you can enter a user's profile to check out their details, PM or email them.
My Profile - Here is where you edit all your private and public settings, including your avatar, signature, and also keep track of the videos you've uploaded to 442Tube.

Miscellaneous
Mark all forums as read - At the bottom of the forums, you'll find a "Mark all forums as read" link. This will automatically clear all new posts so upon your next visit, you can clearly see which topics have been active since your last visit.

Watch this topic - For an email notification of a new post in a thread, click "Options" (found beneath the "New Topic" button at the top of the thread) and a drop-down menu will appear: select "Watch this topic". To cease notifications, simply select "Unwatch this topic" from the same menu.

Watch this forum - Like 'watch this topic', this function will notify you via email of new posts and threads in particular sub-forums. This is found at the bottom of the thread lists in each sub-forum.

Feel free to ask any general forum FAQs in this thread and I will amend the FAQs accordingly.

You can already see their last 10 posts.

When you do this a certain mod seems quick to shoot you down, and give you the link to the relevant thread :-" not naming names though.

And Webby, is it only Fox Sports footage we cant embed, or are there other people who do not like their footage up in here?

Quote:
obtain the video value from the YouTube url
People, "video value" is the number/letter combination after "v=".

Its all in context. A few times people were resurrecting old threads that only had 2 replies in them in the first place and their comment was basically pointless and did not lead to further discussion.

Whereas some people started threads about something that we discussed quite in depth and reached a number of pages (ie expansion of A-League, Sydney 2nd team etc) and making a new thread would just rehash everything that was already said months ago.

"a certain mod"

I'm the ONLY mod, so I wonder who you were referring to? :-"

Keep in mind if you all start using this thread for useless banter and not useful discussion/suggestions, it will be locked, like the Forum Ranks thread was.

No, it's when the page doesn't load up properly, and that causes the 'error'.

Yes, you did make the page stretch.

And can you NOT put all this inside Forum FAQs, it's not related in here. Throw everything inside feedback.

And afroman, that is a viable suggestion, but once again, it should be going inside feedback, and not here.
