I just need to bring up that there is some uncertainty with some of the earlier figures, but this piece from the FFA published 23 June 2014, gives some clues as to what the figure and figures for the 2012/13 A-League season may have been: 23rd June, 2014 - http://www.a-league.com.au/article/club-members-the-heart-and-soul-of-a-league/1r497ylftwd1o1vml36sxjig01: If you-re a member, you-re one of 96,641 people who have set a record this Season 9. That number is an all-time high for club membership and a massive 32% increase on Season 8. The percentage growth figures for individual clubs speak for themselves - Wanderers up 141%, Mariners up 68%, Roar up 52%. Meanwhile, Victory added 19% to their member ranks to have over 22,000 paid-up and proud supporters, the biggest membership in the competition. Sydney FC cracked the 10,000-mark for the first time by lifting membership by 28% and Adelaide United jumped by 23% while the Jets continue to have over 10,000 proud Novocastrians signed up on their membership roster. Clear growth as well for Heart, Glory and Phoenix has helped Season 9 to be the most successful and vibrant season yet for club membership. This reference in a piece from The Leopold Method, dated January 10th, 2013, is also helpful - http://leopoldmethod.com.au/lets-take-a-look-at-these-numbers-more-closely-2/ : Club memberships at an all-time high of 70,000 (12% increase).
I tried my best to interpret what the figures may have been for the end of that season, with the following post in the 2012/13 Membership Numbers thread (A couple years ago): http://forum.insidesport.com.au/1480828/201213Membershipnumbersthread?PageIndex=8#bm1481059I wonder if anybody, preferably folks good with numbers, can help with this little investigative mystery? BTW I must give credit to ' tbitm' for kick-starting the idea of collating the membership numbers and we forum members have carried it on since and more recently the FFA/A-League have come on-board to be a little more transparent about it. It's a shame we haven't seen members like he around for a while, but with the A-League's improving fortunes (Including Heart/City's, a team he followed) perhaps a few former regulars may return some-day. :)

will be interesting to see how Victory go with the end of the NT. you would expect many of the former NT members to move away from the North End active membership category. North End active probably won't even sell out. I'm also hearing that some of the category B members at AAMI Park have been told that their seat is being re-categorised to category A in 12 months (I assume because the demand is there).

I'm not exactly sure which bays or how many bays are being upgraded next season, except that it is definitely happening. we won't hit 30,000. but breaking the 27,000 record has to be the main target.

Melbourne City will dramatically reduce our numbers this season unless we sign a massive marquee... Lot of question marks over the club ATM... not looking promising and I for one will wait a long long time until I renew.

Now with Franjic apparently gone, there needs to be some serious work on the recruitment front. With most European Leagues now in full training, there would not be a great deal of talent out there to chose from. We'll see how big their pockets are.

The Cove membership this year is ridiculously good value. $255 with loyalty discount. Given that it cost $35 for GA last year, membership is a steal.

Not to mention that this season coming we get 2 home derbies too. But I wonder whether the good value that is being offered on memberships will mean the club will hold off on recruiting a top notch Marquee Player.

I would rather Sydney recruit a little known player that fits well into squad rather than an expensive Marquee. Either way, I'll be at all the games I can get to.

As today is the first of the month, and there is roughly 10 weeks to go before the season starts, I figured would be great to kick start the membership tally once more. So far we don't have that many figures as some clubs hold out from releasing their membership numbers (probably because they are low/ or forgotten/ bothered to put up a live tally. I think considering the turmoil the game is in at the moment with the FFA, anything above 115k for the season would be a good result. In saying that, 10 weeks is still a long way away, and so is the rest of the season, so a lot can change. If changes are made at FFA level for the better, and talks of expansion and Pro/Rel are back on the table, then I reckon the interest will spike, especially if as rumours have it be known, Melb City are thinking of bringing in the biggest marquee the A-league has ever seen (unlikely but that's the rumour). If things take a turn for the better I think we can still hit 120k+, but if things take a bad turn, we could be looking at a real dip.

Nice work Davo.
Do you reckon for the next installment you could do a "this time last year" column? Would be good for comparison purposes.
