SHARE Goal's exclusive spy can reveal it's been a difficult transition for City to their new coach, with plenty of in-fighting behind the scenes Newly appointed Melbourne City coach Warren Joyce has demoted one of his assistant coaches amid tensions in the A-League club's backroom. The Covert Agent can reveal Joe Montemurro has been relegated to another role within the club setup after questioning the pre-season training methods implemented by the former Manchester United reserves coach. It is also believed fellow assistant coach Michael Valkanis has concerns over Joyce's philosophy, but was told by the Englishman that challenges to his authority will not be accepted. Joyce, who has worked with the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, has admitted to not being a fan of video sessions and sports science. The 52-year-old was appointed head coach at City in June and was forced to inherit former interim manager Valkanis and Montemurro as assistants. The club is currently preparing for an FFA Cup quarter-final against Sydney FC at Leichhardt Oval on September 13.

A couple of years ago in the AFL the Port Adelaide FC were almost last then suddenly blew the doors off the competition and came within 3 points of making the grand final. The revival was because they had a new fitness coach Darren Burgess who had spent a few years at Liverpool FC and introduced EPL training methods to an AFL club. And over in another state a club was jamming players to the hilt with peptides, pigs brain extract, a "mystery substance from a mexican muscular dystrophy patient", drugs not approved for thrapeutic use... Australia isn't the world leader in sports science, it's just into shameless self prmotion because they know their local fans don't have any global perspective on the matter.

im just not surprised. they bring in roy hodgson to look over the team. hire someone on the basis of being an english hard - oops, I just ate my own poop....
it's clear that cfg just see this team as a talent funnel. but then they dont lock any young australians into the 11 (other than mauk who has to contend with about 10 other defensive/central mids for a spot).
imo wazza was the most regressive signing the AL has made in a few years. i think city's management - need to be turfed.
