Some  accusations from both camps about sledging from the other  team.

Anderson blames the whole Aussie team.

Smith claims Anderson is one of the worst sledgers in Test cricket.

Australia are 214 for 4 at the end of the day's play.

It was pretty slow cricket.

England bowled quite well on a helpful, probably two paced pitch when it got dark.

I think this is a very good score, the key now is we need to cash in batting in the day with no interruptions and hopefully make sure when England go into bat it is close to being dark. Last thing we need is England having 2-3 hours of good batting conditions.

Agree with this!

Must admit I'm enjoying this series immensely, although Australia batted slowly and laboriously yesterday, but probably quite well on a tough pitch.

I love the English cricket media too.

Australia has a good chance of making over 300 with a few hours of batting in daylight today.

Conditions should be good for bowling day or night given it is overcast.

Handscomb out early to Broad.

I feel Australia has done extremely well to get as many players to reasonable scores 47,53,40 and 36 but disappointing none of these have been converted into a big score.

The danger is one of English players not only get a start but do go on with it even if they have a few batsmen fail.

Poms struggling in response to Australia's first innings. 4 down and not even to 100 with Cook and Root both out.

Want to see a bit of fight now from them!

Very fortunate for England to have had rain last night when they were batting under lights. They avoided the Aussie attack because the game finished early.

Tonight England had the benefit  of bowling under lights for a sustained period. They are now in a winnable position if they have a bit of luck. Amazing spell from Anderson.

They fought tonight. They were on top when they bowled under lights. Australia is 268 in front with 6 wickets in hand in their second dig.

you would think another 50 runs would almost be enough to bat them out of the game

132 is the magic number to get to the 400 lead

Is it even possible to win away from home in cricket ? feels like the pitch is always key and the home side has the obvious advantage

England were right on top last night bowling under lights.

We could barely put bat on ball they were swinging it so much.

It didn't turn out like that, but I was worried overnight.

England's great fight back under considerable pressure, meant this was a memorable Test.

Watching the Shield yesterday at Bellerive, a former state batsman and state selector identified  technical faults in almost every Aussie batsman apart from Renshaw.

I'm now thinking Handscomb should be dropped. He has struggled in every innings of this Ashes series. Great bowlers like Anderson have worked him out with him playing so deep in the crease. It could be a good opportunity to bring in an all rounder to provide some back up to the bowlers.

I also think Cummins needs to be rested.

He is bowling with far less pace and fire than he was on the Subcontinent a few months ago.

Watching Tasmania's current potent Shield attack yesterday, Jackson Bird's action takes to much ou tof him. Recently selected Aussie 11 bowler, Gabe Bell, has a more economical action.

Handscombe hasn't had a good score for about a year, he has got to be dropped. There are unorthodox styles then there is Handscombe's style which just isn't effective. He has clearly adapted to this style due to the bouncy wickets in Australia but it really seems the English have done some research to fully expose his flaws. For me he needs to go back to shield and tweak his batting a bit,

I wouldn't be dropping Cummins at all, still was incredibly dangerous with the ball and bat. A case could be made if his performances were effected but he has been outstanding.

They seem to work out batsmen's weaknesses pretty quickly in test cricket. Even though Australia is 2-0 up, we have a few issues with batting outside Smith and Warner being established as batsmen at this level. The potency of our bowling attack has taken the focus away from our potentially brittle batting line up.

I think England's poor captaincy and execution has masked a lot of flaws that we have, we were probably behind England for 3 days at the Gabba but Root just wasn't aggressive enough when they had us in a bad position and we capitalised on it. Then the ridiculous decision to Bowl first and England's overly short length allowed us to put more runs than we probably should have been able to do.

Problem is now those final 2 innings may give England some belief and confidence to start turning things around, for the next test i'd definitely be dropping Handscombe for Maxwell who has made a double century and a 90 in his past 2 shield games and also be very tempted to replace Khawaja for Renshaw. But i'd be willing to give Khawaja one more match as he does have a good enough record in Australia.

Not entirely true about him not having a good score for about a year, but there have not been many good scores. A vital 72 not out in the third test against India in March and 82 in the second test against Bangladesh are best innings. He does still average over 47 which is very good. I would not drop him especially when the possible replacement in the squad for the third test is Mitch Marsh but he needs runs very soon.

Even his form with Victoria has been terrible coming into this series, a 21, 0, 12, 9 ,34, 43, 58, 0 and a 13. Also ever since the Pakistan series has made a score of over 50 twice in 15 innings in tests, he has been struggling massively and being outperformed by lots of options in state cricket too. Maxwell should be in this lineup in his current form

Maxwell is clearly the next option, and I say that as someone who has been very anti-Maxwell in the past. If Mitch Marsh has been selected ahead of him as a top 6 option then the selectors are crazy. Shaun Marsh delivered in the last test but the selectors seem to have a love affair with the Marsh boys, certainly much more than they have deserved and it seems to reared its ugly head again.
There might be a bit too much worry about the fast bowlers being able to stand up to a lot of work so they want to have Mitch Marsh there to bowl on a pitch that might not suit Lyon.

However I would give Handscomb another test, probably only another test, to get back his form.
