I think it would be a hard job. First you have the Asian Cup in iirc Jan 2019. So you need a good result there.
Then, there are 4.5 spots for Qatar. You need to be better than one or more of Aus, SK, Iran, Japan & SA. You also have the dilemma over where to play home matches.
If you had the choice in 2021 would you rather manage NZ or Iraq if they played each other? Because both job could lead to the same play off game. At least with NZ you are most likely already there.
