I think the case with Wright regardless of injury is he suits a very certain style of football predominantly played in BPO. He isn't suited to playing in a team who aims to keep the ball for long periods of time which amazes me given he seemed to be an ange favourite.

Anyway his time with the national team is not over despite the disappointment of missing out on the world cup. In fact he may very well suit Arnie and what he wants to see from his centre halves

Overrated imo. Shouldn't be apart of the NT going forward.

Arnie will have plenty of CBs to choose from for his 4 year reign.
Should choose an older pairing and a younger one hopefully.
Something like...

Sainsbury(30 in 2022) / Spiranovic(33)
Chapman(27) / Susnajr(25)

What has Spiranovic done to deserve selection?

He was our best CB before his Chinese club dropped into the second tier.
Now that he's been released, he should be playing regular football again soon. Gives him a full season before 2022 WC qualifying.

If Wright has a good centre back next to him who can communicate throughly and play with the ball at his feet then I reckon he should be looked at as the 2nd or 3rd centre back option.

Depends on the type of game we play. As a wide CB of three he gave away a goal in the first minute of our friendly against Brazil. Against England, up against their best strikers he was one of the best on field. He could definitely play EPL in a traditional British setup

Chapman is shit!He didn't move overseas cause he was good, he left cause he couldn't get a game in the A league.

yeah he is a solid CB.  maybe gets done for pace if he slips out of position, but he cant be that slow if they are playing him as a fullback.

and in the NT everyone was getting done at the back - ange's defences are a shambles

chapman is a better defender than tongkyik and people were calling for his inclusion into the NT when he was undercooked at melbourne.

i havent seen either of them show form that deserves a call up

Wilkinson, Jurman and Ogenovski weren’t in the frame for the national team before their moves to Korea either. ( I’d throw Cornthwaite in ther but he should t have been in the frame after his move there).

Playing 40 odd games a season in a technical league does things for a players’ game that the A-league doesn’t.

Chapman should at least get scouted again.

Long term I think that Johnny Koutrimbis is going to be good. It’s a shame he didn’t get game time this year though.

Arnold will have his favourites in 2018-2022.
I doubt one of the CBs will be Wilkinson in 2022 as he'll be 37y.o by then. Would be silly to use him in qualifying.

Likely players currently under 30...

Spiranovic-29
Williams-29
Jurman-28
Sainsbury-26
Wright-25
Good-25
Donachie-25
Chapman-24
Ansell-24
Degenek-24
Elsey-24
Burgess-22
Susnajr-22
Tongyik-21
Deng-21
Katroumbis-20

Enough there for 4 decent centre backs in 2022.
Only question is which 4...

Will be interesting to see what happens with Good now that he's fit and can finally get out of Newcastle. He's still only 25.
