Senegal Tahiti in opener. Senegal scored from kick off. A real shame we didn't qualify but that's how it is.

Qatar face Nigeria tonight which should be a cracker of Qatar emergence vs Nigerian strength at youth level.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_FIFA_U-20_World_Cup

Just seeing now it was Vietnam who came 2nd in the U23 tournament January last year.

Have we ever attempted to host this? Why not the AFC U23 championship. Incompetent FFA aside there's never really been an official mention, has there?

Maybe the best football I have ever seen played by a NZ team. Absolutely tore Honduras to shreds.

Just, McCowatt, Singh, Cacace and Waine are all very good players.

Joe Bell would be a decent pickup for the Nix too.

1-1, NZ out on pens to Colombia with the dodgiest ref decision you'll ever see - NZ keeper saves a 3rd pen in a row and then was called as a re-take. Completely threw us off, then Colombia wins it.

US comes from 2-1 down to beat France 3-2. Good result for the US, it's a young team and Timothy Weah the only full-time European senior player in the squad, though lots of MLS players who are senior team regulars along with the Europe-based guys who are mostly with their club's U-19 squads. This should help with some of the MLS guys getting good looks with European clubs.

From my perspective, bummed NZ is out but happy US is still alive.

The USA seems to do something right with their youth development of late, have made the last couple of quarterfinals at the u20 world cup as well.

Do you know what they have done in the youth development space? @NixCrewCross

Watched Japan vs South Korea, gee they were unlucky had some great chances not bad considering some of their best young players are with the senior team ready to play in the Copa America, they also thrashed Chile 6-1 in the u21 Toulon Tournament so they have depth and talent coming through!

Honestly, I think you're just starting to see the MLS academies become more mature and solidified, and we're also seeing more and more opportunities for teenagers at the senior level in MLS. There are multiple 18 and 19 year olds who are killing it as first teamers in MLS who didn't even make the squad. Tons of young talent actually being trusted with starting roles. Not to mention the US second best player after Pulisic, Tyler Adam's from RB Leipzig, also could have played with this team if not for already being a senior team starter.

Interestingly enough, i think this the first ever US U-20 without any US college players on it, which if you know anything about the US youth soccer system is a huge deal.

Also seeing MLS academies as a pathway to European teams when kids turn 18 if they dont sign professionally with MLS, like Chris Richard's moving from FC Dallas academy to Bayern Munich. Even a lot of the Europesn based guys got their start with MLS academies.

So we will see, u20 success of course not a predictor of senior success but it cant hurt and I'll take anything after how dreadful the senior team was last wcq cycle.

Good stuff, it shows the value of the MLS investing in youth development a good lesson for the a-league when the leagues fully independent, i noticed they have a 2nd division as well which has helped.

Great to see the USA finally realising its true potential given how big the market is.
