+xI don’t know what to believe with DeVere. I’ve asked everyone I can but those who know are saying nothing but platitudes and the media have ignored requests (Marco, Bozza, Vince) to find out what’s going on. Informally there’s a couple of people telling me he is unfit, he’s a bit “like glass” and scared of another injury ... and I’ve read others that claim to know that he is fit and raring to go. So who knows. If you look at the comments on this tweet ( https://twitter.com/RoarMelb/status/1082809087627210752), Nick Meredith is saying there is a "Very good reason why" there is no guarantee that Devere will be in the side for Friday's game. He then also says he will share on Friday night, so not sure what that means. Obviously it's Meredith, and he is a bit of a loon, but maybe he has heard something?

+xSeeing all this speculation is here about Devere, and no one seems to be able to shed any light at all on why he is not being picked, can I throw another thought (completely without any evidence or suspicion, purely dreamed up by me) into the mix? Has he been "playing away" with a team mate's partner maybe? Doubt this is the case, given he regularly shows up on other players Instagram stories when they are hanging out, having team lunches, playing golf etc.

It's possible but if that's the case it would have had to have been after the start of the season which doesn't really tie in with why he was given no time in preseason. there are pictures on some of the players social media of Luke out socially with the boys a trip to toowoomba and out for breaky with the boys all looking happy just before the season started. though he is pretty low key on social media so it is hard to say if anything has changed recently. He is also married but who knows.

DeVere was injured preseason. I’m not sure for how long but he was on light duties at two of the open training sessions

The DeVere watch is rather intriguing. The Roar are leaking goals for fun and they would consider O'Toole ahead of Devere? The club really needs to work out a better media plan, because the current speculation is starting to harm Devere's reputation.

He's been playing in the Y-League and to be honest he looks terribly flat (in my opinion). Not sure if he's still carrying injuries but I don't think he's the saviour everyone is hoping for. Look elsewhere.

No idea why Karl Dodds seems to be flavour of the month re: new coach. Surely there's better options available.

Karl Dodd is purely a journalist thing, mainly Marco/Courier Mail lately.
Every story that’s been written has zero quotes in it, and doesn’t even dare to use the classic “sources close to the club say ...” line.
Pourre said they started with a list of nearly 40 names, some in Australia, some in Asia and a few in Europe. I’d guess Dodd is on that list but the question is did he make the shortlist?
The other intriguing thing is whether this trip to Jakarta has been to select a preferred candidate or agree details around how they’ll be selected?

What about Honda......involved with Cambodia I think.....so why not Roar next season.
Bonus is it'd piss off Victory. And that's gotta be a good thing.

Reading between the lines on a Fox article about Kruse, sounds like Holman has been back living in the Gulf for months. What a stupid re-signing that one was.

The trouble with dumping a lot of the low wage players is you’re going to have to import a lot of low wage players Mr. B.
They’ll be equally as shit but just new to the club.

I think it would be an incredibly risky move to get rid of all of our Visa players, especially when all of them (except Mikkelson) have shown they can perform at the required level in the A-League. Kristensen is certainly done, so I don't mind him going, but Eric and Lopez should be kept on. Visa players are meant to provide that spark/difference in an A-League squad, and it is a huge gamble to try and bring in 5 new Visa players at the same time. They could all be Mikkelson's, in which case our season is doomed. At least we know Eric and Lopez have what it takes. Also keep in mind with Eric, he has provided a huge number of chances that Taggart hasn't been able to finish, and he is not to blame for that. His assist count should be higher.
I also question getting rid of someone like Bowles. Absolutely he is not starting quality, however the reality of the A-League is every team is going to need to have some not so great players to fill the gaps. Sure, if someone can find a better backup Australian RB/CB, whose salary is the same or less, go for it, but I don't think it is that easy to find.
I'd also really love to see us sign a new back up GK to actually challenge Young's starting position. Someone like Daniel Margush from Adelaide who has very big wraps from all accounts would be great.

Maybe, maybe not, we could find someone better so there really is no harm, no point keeping the low wage same shit, try someone new :)
I scraped all the imports, while you could say some are good, I reckon its more they are standing out among the shit, I think Brisbane can do better, we need goals from other players, preferably our imports.
Who knows when Taggart is going to fall over, miss a pen or score a brace.

There is harm, when you consider these squaddies are back up players, and if the new ones end up being worse, we are in trouble if need to play. It's not like there is some limitless supply of Aussie squaddies who don't want much money, have A-League experience etc etc.

I don’t disagree on the imports. Although I’d consider keeping Bautheac providing he goes well for the rest of the season.
TK and Mikklesen could leave today and we’d be better off.
Lopez started out really brightly but then faded. I’d be happy to let him go also and replace him with Luke Brattan or Brillante who’s off contract.

The replacements shipping a couple more won't matter that much but at least you tried someone new in the hopes of getting someone better. As for the limitless supply of aussie squddies, I'd rather give our youth a go over journeymen squaddies any day of the week, low wage, could do well or could bomb but at least they are promoting from within.

Eric was a tough one, he is good but we still need more goals from him, I think I remember a stat mentioned in last weeks game, something along the lines of chances he was getting. I'll need to look it up. Lopez like you said look good early on but now its just gone missing.

What's the situation with Stefan Nigro? I think he has been on the bench only a couple of times, and I can't recall him getting on the park yet. I'm intrigued as to why he has not been given a go yet, given all the injuries, poor form , suspensions, etc. Has he been crap in training? He looked pretty serviceable as a squad player when he was at MV.

I agree with dumping the majority of the squad - I would also just try and keep Eric and Lopez if we could get them for around 200k and inside the cap. Be great if we could also bin Hingert.
We should be looking at how the better squads in the league are constructed. Most of the money goes to the top 11-13 players and fill the squad out with minimum contracts and young kids. I honestly don't think a single one of our players makes the Victory XI. Eric and Lopez make their bench and you could argue Young and Thomas but it's a bit of a meh argument for me, they're both fine but Thomas is way younger.

Most clubs go 7/7/7 with three bands of pay plus 2 marquees (which is my understanding how Aloisi ran it but I’m not sure on previous coaches).
Victory tend to concentrate the cash into fewer top players meaning their better players are better but average players - or means there’s more of them (but it seems to work).

Without Toivonen or Honda, Victory are same as any other team. Just look at results while Honda not playing.
I'd keep Lopez for sure, I think when Mauk gets firing Lopez will be better.
Also Lopez is defending to much for me but that's the way it is when backline is conceding too often, you tend to drop back also. If the back line was stronger he'd be more confident in offensive play.
Eric and Lopez I'd keep, fix the problems around them and you'll see them switch on to what they do best.

Mauk and Lopez are too slow for the Rosr way. Need to make a clean sweep and start again.

It's a no from me for Davies. There's been massive issues in the midfield that have not been fixed. Been there for last 4 games and he hasn't address this.
