Akbari in tomorrow. If he sticks with 3-5-2 I recon it’ll be O’Shea to replace O’Neill and Akbari playing O’Sheas forward role

Hmmmmm.... I'm thinking Akbari sitting behind O'shay.

but georgevski will pose a problem if  Roar play 3 in the back???? That may give us very little on the left wing if whoever we play LWB gets caught tracking back too frequently.

4 in the backline will give a direct opponent to georgevski if he comes forward but may?? allow Roar to still get in behind on the left which by the way  is something that is not happening enough.

We really should have won the last game against them 3 or 4 nil, so I’m not overly worried by them it’s just whether our XI can put a performance together?

The last time Akbari started he sat deep but I don’t think it went that well hence I’m thinking they’ll push him forward and play O’Shea deeper this time

Georgevski is one of the players this season who has played beyond himself (or perhaps more to his potential) when I have watched their games. By himself he is both individually and creatively worrying.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

I hope we don't play him back into form - but it is more his attacking side that I was referring to rather than any weakness in defence. Good to hear he has dropped off though - he looked deadly early on.

Midfield battle could be interesting. Two unlikely partnerships. Wsw lack schwegler and baccus with o Doherty returning.  ? O Doherty and Sullivan vs pepper and mauk or mells?

Need to control pace of Duke, yeboah and kamau. Wsw had a field day at suncorp last year (finished 2 all).  Can our new defence hold up better this time?

Yes it has to be part of the game plan.

If Georgevski is forward Roar should target in behind him. However that is a team recognition thing and if the team doesn't react as a team then maybe it doesn't work.

I say say this because Roar has not impressed me with the desire to get in behind this year....rather they seem happy to cross from beyond the box which to me is a low percentage unless you out muscle the defenders with size and height. And We don't unless it's AAH, but ??

im still hoping for a 4 backline as I think we just don't have 3 CBS who are good enough to play 3 man backline.

Esp if Georgevski has a good game we will get caught with 3 unless we want our wing back chasing the whole game which I personally wouldn't. The winger or wing back must have put some pressure on the opponents wide defensive areas.

Tho as one of my brilliant Scottish coaches (capped for Scotland) once said to me if your opponents are stronger,  faster and more skilful than you, it doesn't really matter what shape u have you are gonna lose more often than not!

i tell a story of a senior team I took 2 years ago, they finished near the bottom of the league. I knew they were better, I brought in a midfielder (admittedly ex pro from Greece) and a striker and presto won the league undeafeated.

Bit seriously 2 players turned the team into a premiership title winner and importantly neither of these guys were man of the match in the grand final. These 2 guys brought out the best in the other players who were cellar dwellers previously.

So despite what some claim on this website, one or two qualities players can reinvigorate the team.

Heres hoping RF can find a couple players to maybe achieve a turnaround.

Broich, Nincovic, Castro all make other players look much better so I agree with that.

And yeah, the biggest failing in RF’s team is this inability to get forward quickly in transition, it looks to me like they’re coached that way too.

At the end of the Jets game in a post match interview one of their players summed it up saying something like “we were happy to let Roar have the ball at the back and wait for the turnover in our half and then hit them on the counter”.

That’s pretty much every game this season

A couple of interesting stats ahead of today’s game:

“The Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers are two of three teams remaining in the 2019/20 A-League season yet to make an error leading to a goal (also Perth Glory)”

“Brisbane Roar’s Jay O’Shea has created the most scoring chances (36) of all players in the 2019/20 A-League season and more than double the amount of any Western Sydney Wanderers player”

The only stat that matters atm is the table that sees us at no10 out of 11 but I agree however that we do have some very creative players in the squad and given a more experienced coach , Popovic,Arnold, Muscat or Amor we would most likely be pushing for the top 2 rather than the bottom 2 .
Fowler falling out with and bagging his own players don’t sit well with the playing squad and senior players don’t buy into it very well., Joyce did the same thing a city he didn’t last long.

If players have a problem hearing some hard truths they need to leave the club.

Imaging players like Berisha and Broich in this squad, they were notorious for telling their teammates how it was so if any current players suffer snowflake syndrome they can piss off, not blame the coach

agree on the importance of the table - however the importance of the underlying stats can’t be ignored either

WSW will be pretty unsettled with-out there starting DM duo. With both Schwellger and Baccus out, all you need to do is shut down Muller and you could be in for a chance tonight.

So Joyce was right to bin Fornaroli? And do you think RF can coach?

I don’t know how/why you can bring Joyce and Fornarolli in to this debate so I’ll have to ignore it?

Can RF coach?

The answer is clearly yes - there’s more than enough evidence from this season that he can given his ability to change tactics, formation, players and some of his tactical substitutions have been very astute and he’s shown he’s not afraid to make those subs early in the game.

He can coach although his teams performance are getting worse as the season progresses and, while he can argue his team should have picked up more points earlier in the season (maybe as many as 7-8), there’s no doubt they’re copping what they deserve lately and arguably fluked a point at Jets.

So RF can coach but there is a question mark over how effective his coaching is - he’s got maybe a month to address that.

But I do think what we’re looking at is a failure in his coaching. Much has been made of his recruiting but statistically he’s created a side that is creating more chances than they concede so he’s kinda “there or there abouts” and the reason his team is joint bottom is probably a combination of a few key signings not working out, some conservative tactics and (being generous) bring slightly unlucky in those early rounds when points were dropped.

Player wise Holloway, ROD, and Inman are all badly underperforming. That’s his first pick front three - he is either unlucky or clueless. Either way it is on Fowler because with a front three misfiring it ain’t happening for any team (and that’s where that statistic on O’Shea comes in - the midfield is creating chances they’re just not getting out away).

To compound it DWH has not stepped up either - 9 shots in a recent lost game and no goals. That’s criminal.

Tactics wise I think Fowler has concentrated too much on those 70+ goals conceded last season. That wasn’t his side but his team are way to cautious as a result and coming out of defence to the point they almost look afraid to cross the halfway line until they have more numbers in support.

The next couple of games will determine if Fowler loses touch with Finals, it’s pretty clear they’re not close to being contenders this year and the squad will need an overhaul but losing touch with finals in January should be enough to finish his career at Roar

and if RF is giving some/all players a serve then good on him. I can’t think of one player who isn’t letting the side down at some point so if they’re too precious about criticism they really do need to look in a mirror.

A Happy  Glorious  New Year to everyone  ,especially to the Roar tragics and fellow cellar dwellars, who need sympathy.

I dont think anyone who coaches senior football ,'cant coach'.RF included. But we all know being a successful coach is a different thing entirely.
JA,Frank Farina,,Joyce ,etc.. can all coach but clearly have more limitations than most.

RF he is up to his eyeballs in problems. It's hard for anyone to make a  bottom dwelling team become successful mid season. It just doesnt happen without some significant change.
Roar cant score in the first half of any games and concedes the first goal all the time.
How does anyone turn that around midseason?
The only time Roar have looked dangerous so far this season is when there has been  a fast break, like Inman made last game. The problem is that is so rare .Most times transition in attack is slow  and laboured. That has to be a coached thing.

For todays game,I just hope Roar dont get flogged.Mueller is a top player and is finally hitting  form .

Help me out. When we won the NYL Grand Final, regularly reaching the W-Leagues Finals or winning the NPLW Queensland Grand Final?

Yet we haven't been able to produce a decent seniors men's team or provide local players that seemingly win youth comps?.

The owner and club management have a lot to answer to.

Hi Everyone
New here a supporter yes and keen observer.
The current as is including the players that Fowler, is isolating are in my opinion all good. The problems is as follows . Fowler people management, and coaching ability as such.
Tony Grant ex Everton a scout for mentioned club sacked by Marcel Brands TD Everton.
Current TD at Roar not trusted at all.

Senior or group has informed younger OZ players not say a negative word.
FACT . He blasted playing group in changing room half time against NU. Someone here has leaked our game plan.??
Does not talk to Oz players at training.
You have a left back in the Australian 23 side
but not good enough for Roar. Senior Jurnos, and players confused. 5 players want out, Fowler reactive not Proactive.
