Spot on. NRL should aim for $1.5B/5years (don't forget the legitimate talk of a Perth team & second Brisbane team).

How much does advertising pay into the price of broadcast rights when total advertising revenue on pay TV is $386 pa. It would be interesting to know total subscription revenue and the costs structure.

Fox bidded high for AFL to penetrate the VIC, SA and WA markets. It already holds a massive share of NSW and QLD, why does it need to bid higher for something it already has?

Anyway of finding out the fox ratings for the afl games that are simultaneously shown live on channel 7 as well? these are mainly the blockbuster matches, the smaller scale matches seem to be rating very well.

To keep the NSW and Qld market happy it needs live summer content to complement cricket.

Are AFL games played in Melbourne allowed to be on TV live at the same time?

Well seeing that TEN has publicly stated they want all 8 games, 7 has shown strong interest and 9 said "Hell will freeze over before Channel 9 loses rugby league". They obviously have plenty of competition if they are not willing to pay the money. FOX will not lose Rugby League, if they do they would lose a massive and i mean massive segment of the market. Any tough talk from them is a bluff.

The NRL now have Gary Pemberton, John Grant, LEK, among others negotiating the deal. They will milk every cent out of FOX. I feel a Billion is inevitable, it will be interesting how much higher it will be though.

I was talking about them paying more for the A-League. Sorry.

They will pay more for League if they want more content and if they want to retain content and not lose it to FTA or to online providers.

Well the don't show all the NRL games live and many people up in Qld are fed up with that biased dribble from down south as commentators.

Not only that, some of those Fox games are shown on FTA, and all interstate teams get games shown on FTA as well.

Ten wanted to put the NRL games on One - if anyone thinks Ten would pay $1.5 billion to put games on One - they'd have to have rocks in their head.

Yes, doing well:
http://www.talkingfooty.com/tv_ratings_2012.php

e.g. Geelong vs Hawthorn on Monday got a whopping 334k on Fox plus another 635k on FTA (to be top ranking show on Monday).

Also Brisbane vs Carlton got 211k on Fox plus 603k on FTA.

The other thing about Monday is that On the Couch got 154k and AFL360 got 104k, all making it into the top 5 Fox shows for Monday.

Fox Footy the highest rating STV channel for the second week in a row.

Its all good, I will still sleep tonight as he gets all excited over doomsday scenarios.

Apparently the FFA have been hiding stories away in a vault somewhere about MH. Must be a facinating place

I wish I could find that footage on Youtube of them storing files in that huge warehouse from the X-Files.

We'd have to at least expect double what we got last time. Even Foxtel have admitted the A-League is a good little rater for them.

Talk about a thin piece of string. Its become more of an AFL vs NRL contest that is so far off the track of being about the HAL that its not worth trying to defend it.

Bring it back to the topic at hand or move on I would suggest.

If you want to now say its all about comparative data good for you, but it sounds more like you are once agin just trying to defend your real favourite game, AFL.

In fact 56k for 7Mate is an excellent result, especially when footy fans with Fox are watching it on Fox.

Talk about a thin piece of string. Its become more of an AFL vs NRL contest that is so far off the track of being about the HAL that its not worth trying to defend it.

Bring it back to the topic at hand or move on I would suggest.

you can only get an idea of how much the A-League is worth on fox by analysing what other sports are getting in ratings
it all doesn't happen in a vacuum

If you want to now say its all about comparative data good for you, but it sounds more like you are once agin just trying to defend your real favourite game, AFL.

No need to try and tell us otherwise, your words say it all.

Buddy cut the crap. You are presenting a highly biased view on AFL figures. By picking and choosing which figures they do well in and showing the figures when the NRL do bad in. If you wanted to bring comparative data for football you would show all figures yet you only choose to show the ones that suit your agenda.

So 90% preaching to the converted?

In fact 56k for 7Mate is an excellent result, especially when footy fans with Fox are watching it on Fox.

Hard to know, a fair few from there, but the population is relatively small compared to metropolitan Sydney.

Their market in Sydney at the moment is pretty much the Swans fans plus some expats. No one else really cares for the game other than a passing interest. 50k+ and they are doing as expected probably. They have a big job ahead of them but they are in it for the long haul and they are only after a share of the market to maximise sponsorship revenue after all. When 53% of the country's population live in states that don't care much for your game grabbing even a relative small share of the market is of great interest to sponsors.
