I think the high ratings for the Heart game is a very positive sign, there is room for two teams in Melbourne. How many people would your team draw through the gate if they had only won one(and now two) matches for all of 2011?

Give them time.

I think it's being blind to reality to suggest that the relatively good ratings for MBH v NUJ are in some way positive for MBH.

Just like it's being blind to reality if anyone suggests the high attendances we will see at MBH v MBV at AAMI Park are positive signs for MBH.

We know NUJ are drawing extremely strong support at the ground, so it stands to reason that the viewers for MBV v NUJ were drawn from the NUJ support base.

You did notice it wasn't live and of course realise why?

And as you would say to others claiming you are blind to reality without facts and figures to support who did who did not watch the telecast, facts please, or it's simply a mindless opinion and moronic insults.

I actually think the ratings were excellent again for two reasons the Melb Heart game was at 530pm on a Saturday not a very good time for ratings for any sport and to get 68k suggests to me if there were two games on Saturday night instead of 3 the Heart game at 630pm and Vicotry at 830pm there would be more viewers. The Friday night game was clearly affected by a shit Cricket team and whether the Aussies could fluke a win, I think it would of rated much higher if the cricket was in the second day not the final session.

Some of the timeslots are not great for viwer numbers with Saturday Afternoon this week at 2pm and Sunday afternoon should really be a 630pm start prime time finishing at 830pm and not 5pm, people will agrue about school, work the next day but 830pm is not a late finish.

Friday night has to be in the future the 2nd biggest game of the round with Saturday night the premium game for the week and the 3rd biggest Sunday 630pm, the 4th biggest Saturday 630pm and the 5th biggest Shared between Perth at 10pm and Wellington Sunday or Sat afternoon 430pm.

These are excellent numbers and to be honest there was not one marquee match this weekend and to be honest I thought the two highest rating matches were not the two matches I would of selected out the 5 to watch before the round.

Recently there were legal threats re websites without the rights to the ratings, publishing the ratings. So, no, it doesn't look like it in the short to medium term. Astra (Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association) only publish the top 10 of sport and other genre. We are lucky to get that as paytv have been reducing access to ratings on a regular basis for years and are notorious for not being open.

Oh wow..... You want us to think that MV's figures are a great indication of success, and a slap in the face to the HAL 'haters', yet the figures still fell 60K in one week... Now Einstein, tell us how that supports your case??

As for MH, we have a long way to go, but thats an impressive result. No one is sitting here trying to draw conclusions, as we cant actually detail where the viewership came from.

Sorry to say, but trying to talk down one team to justify your own cause is a sad reflection on yourself there..

And I'll tell you that that will piss off 90% of the people that turn up to games now. There's a lot of emotional commitment to that 5-6k that turn up even though we were last and winless.Watching which direction people head after the game the last couple of times and it seems its East. Not even remotely close to Geelong. The FFA risks losing these fans altogether.

Why were there three games on Saturday? How many neutrals would sit through three games in a row?

^ Truely baffles me also.

Even for a football freak, its almost too much to watch all of, let alone a neutral.

Fully agree.

Taking 2/3 regional games a year (one Morwell, one Geelong and possibly one Ballarat/Bendigo match) could spread the brand, but the main market to try and build from will be Melbourne. Selling the idea of regional matches to Melbourne based fans can go either way, so whatever they do, lets hope the fans voices are a main first consideration in the decision making process, which I must say they usually are at this club..

As much as some MV fans like to think they have the market sewn up, theres many out there that just dont connect with you, and havent over the years you have been in the comp. The MH atleast offers choice, and from what I have seen, many fans are those who did not get involved in the first 5 years of the comp. It may be a core base of 5/6K that attend matches, but as stefcep states, our fans definately are passionate (as shown at the last weeks game where 6K sounded like >10K).

Its still a big market that both clubs can work with.

Great post mate. Sums up my reasons for loving the heart pretty well.

I hate that figjam bloke though, grinds my gears so much. Everyone is inferior to his great MV, turns every thread into "Victory are better then the team being discussed"

During the NRL season ,they had super saturday. This was three games in a row.Normally though on a Sat night the third and fourth matches are EPL.So it could be a one off.I also imagine it's good for pubs and clubs to have live sport all night.
I was at the R.E in Brizzy sat night and it was refreshing to see A-League playing.

I actually didn't mind the triple-header: i wouldn't want to do it every week mind you, but every now and again is fine. As for why it was done, you can't help thinking that perhaps Fox Sports are testing the waters for the eventual, inevitable inclusion of a Perth-based NRL team. The primary reason for the push for a Perth team in the NRL (apart from the ravenous desire for rugby league in Perth) is for the timeslot advantage for the Eastern states on Saturdays; with the NZ team there as well, they can program wall-to-wall league from virtually midday through to midnight with an NZ game first up early afternoon, concluding with a 9pm ko for the Saturday night. Whilst we're baulking at three or four games in a row, you can guarantee league fans will lap it up.

The latest ratings for week 47 are out.Socceroos game against Thailand came 7th with 104 and Bris vs Well came 9th with 69.The cricket SA vs Aust cleaned up with 1st to 5th and 8th(222 to 71).With Presidents Cup sneaking in for 5th with 121. A-League still the top domestic sport.

The Socceroos figure is good but not the A-league figure I don't think. Mind you, none of the matches were that major this week. We had good live attendances with an average around 15k so it's all good I guess.

To put the results in perspective.Well vs MV scored 69 on a sun afternoon and came 3rd a few weeks back.Likewise the Bris vs Well game was a sun afternoon game.It seems 69 on a sun afternoon is a good result.
I note no games from the weekend just ended made the top 10.This seems strange as it included the Jets vs Bris game on sat afternoon. Please explain?

The A-League figure is actually reasonably respectable, but the Socceroos figure is pretty disillusioning. I know it wasn't exactly a marquee game but still, just over 100K in what was a relatively agreeable timeslot almost borders on the putrid. Don't forget that a WCQ v Uzbekistan back in Apr 2009 set a then Pay TV record upwards of 400K.

It obviously goes to show just how much heat has dissipated from mainstream Socceroos support since last year's WC seeing as the ratings for most international games have hovered around these mediocre totals since then.

At this rate, it's hard to see WCQ's being of any interest to FTAs - meaning that under the anti-siphoning legislation SBS will pick up the rights to broadcast them for a song.

Most non-football sports followers will have zero interest in early rounds of qualifications. The next round should get much better figures, as would high-profile friendlies played at a good time.

Hopefully that will be the case, particularly if we draw a familiar opponent such as Japan or Iran in the next phase.

It still seems to me though that the "disappointment" of the 2010 WC - in particular the 4-0 drubbing by Germany - basically killed off the last of the fairweather support that we'd managed to maintain throughout the post-2006 period which is reflected in the flatlining of the ratings since 2010. I guess the situation hasn't been helped by the fact that the "stars" (i.e those players playing in the EPL) have gone off the boil in recent years.

It will probably take some sort of fairytale run in the 2014 WC (providing we qualify) to make the Socceroos a truly marketable commodity again.

I thought the Bris game would have done better.Overall though the only positve is we stil have two games in the top ten. However ,clearly the trend is down.

Weekend before last:
Brisbane v Newcastle got 62k
Sydney v Central Coast got 61k
Wellington v Adelaide got less than 55k (although I would suggest it got something around 50k as the pregame in between nix v au and jets v roar got 57k)

GCU v Heart on Friday Night got 48k

And then as above Victory v Perth got 79k (according to tvtonight)

Weekend just gone:
We can see above Brisbane v perth got 74k

on Sunday Victory v Gold Coast got 81k
Wellington v Sydney got 52k or less

No other results available for Friday Night or Saturday Night yet, but obviously below 74k

What gets me is the top rating show was session 1 of day 5 of the cricket. That session was washed out and they didn't start playing until after lunch!
I assume that means the 185k stayed and watched the replay of the previous days play - perhaps they didn't notice.

Depends on how they classify a rating. I know i switched over to that channel a few times to check for play.

Maybe a stupid question, but do people believe that the regional games coule be a big winner for the FFA in terms of fox viewership? You would presume your likely to get more people watching on Fox when games are taken away from their home grounds.
