I'm unsure on our interest in James. On one hand he'd be good for a season or two, and I think he'd excell in the SPL. On the other hand, he's only a short term solution.

Conflicting reports coming out of Sunderland on this one. Bruce is saying we don't need another keeper as Gordon is only out for a few months and we have Fulop, Mignolet and Carson (former youth team keeper who's playing all our pre-season friendlies at the moment). On the other hand, the media is convinced we're still after the big man. I have to say that James on a one year deal would be a tremendous deal with Gordon's recent bad luck - I'd take him like a shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Ipswich chasing Fulop.

Quote: Eduardo joins Shakhtar Donetsk
Arsenal can confirm that Eduardo has joined Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk for an undisclosed fee. Eduardo (27), who signed for Arsenal from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in July 2007, made a total of 67 appearances, scoring 20 times in all competitions for the Gunners. The Croatian international scored 12 goals from 22 starts in his first season with Arsenal, having previously made his name in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb, netting 73 times in 111 appearances, and was the first ever player to score a hat-trick in the Dinamo v Hadjuk Split derby match. Among Eduardo's 20 goals for Arsenal, was the superb heeled volley he scored in an FA Cup tie against Burnley at Emirates Stadium, which signalled his return from a lengthy injury lay-off. Eduardo's recovery from his injury sustained at Birmingham City in February 2008 is a testament to his strength as a human being, and this character and determination will be missed by everyone associated at Arsenal. Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Eduardo for his contribution towards the Club and wishes him the best of luck for the future. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/eduardo-joins-shakhtar-donetsk Sad to see him go, but it's probably for the best. Just makes me angry to think that one act of thuggery ruined what was looking to be a great career.

Bramble's a good pickup for 1m imo, was fairly solid last season and is far from the joke of a centreback he was earlier in his career.
Not to mention built like a brick shithouse:lol: It appears that Sol is taking his time waiting for the best deal before making up his mind though. Quote: Prem clubs trail Silvestre
Skysports.com understands four Premier League clubs are in the hunt for former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre. The 32-year-old was released by Arsenal at the end of last season and is currently training in the South of France to keep up his fitness. West Ham and Wigan are thought to be interested in his signature, while two other top-flight sides are tracking his progress. Silvestre made 12 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last term, but left upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the campaign. Previous to his move to the Emirates, the former France international spent nine years with Manchester United where he appeared 249 times in the league. Silvestre has been targeted by both the Hammers and the Latics as they look to bolster their defences before kick-off in August. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6276012,00.html Obviously not very ambitious clubs:lol:

Quote: Sporting sell Veloso to Genoa - report Italian Serie A club Genoa have reportedly followed up the signing of Eduardo from Braga by sealing a deal for fellow Portugal international Miguel Veloso from Sporting. La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Genoa will pay the Lisbon club 6.5m euros plus Spanish midfielder Alberto Zapater in return for Veloso, who will sign a four-year contract at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Genoa, who finished in 9th place in the Italian top flight last season, have already signed experienced Italian international striker Luca Toni, as well as Portugal no.1 Eduardo so far this summer. For Sporting, the deal would represent the second high-profile departure of the summer, after Joao Moutinho’s departure to FC Porto earlier this month. By Sean Gillen http://www.portugoal.net/index.php/more-sporting-news/13602-sporting-sell-veloso-to-genoa-report Bit surprised by this tbh. Genoa look to be pretty strong next season buying Luca Toni, Eduardo and now Veloso.

Milan won't get him, simply because 1) they don't have the money to buy him and 2) Whatever they offer City will just come in with a bigger offer and offer bigger wages.

If Man City were desperate for Dzeko and Wolfsburg rejected an offer of 50-60m Man City would just come in with an even bigger offer.
VW would in no way be able to reject an offer of 60-70m. They'd be stupid and ignorant not to accept it.

Article wrote:James set for Celtic talks Goalkeeper David James is to hold talks with Celtic on Monday over a possible move to Parkhead.
The England international's future has remained uncertain since the end of last season when his contract with Portsmouth came to an end.
Pompey were initially keen to keep the 39-year-old but later withdrew their offer of a new deal after he failed to respond before a set deadline.
A number of clubs have since been linked with a move for James, with Sunderland manager Steve Bruce confirming his interest earlier on Saturday.
But James will now fly north on Monday to meet Bhoys boss Neil Lennon, who has been busy rebuilding his squad this summer.
Lennon will hope to persuade James that he should embark on a new challenge in Scotland.
"He's hopefully coming up on Monday to have talks and look at the place and we'll take it from there," Lennon told Sky Sport News. I'm not sure what to think of this. On one hand, he'll be a quality keeper in the SPL. On the other, we shouldn't be signing for anymore than a year. Edited by Funky Munky: 25/7/2010 05:02:10 PM

Old news but has just been confirmed Quote: Sunderland sign Angeleri Sunderland have boosted their defensive options by recruiting Marcos Angeleri from Argentinian side Estudiantes de La Plata. Manager Steve Bruce has swooped to sign the right-back for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal. The 27-year-old - who has three senior caps for Argentina - becomes the third South American in the Black Cats' ranks, with Paraguayans Paulo Da Silva and Cristian Riveros also hailing from the continent. The defender missed out on selection for Diego Maradona's World Cup squad for the finals in South Africa this summer due to injury but the player has impressed Bruce enough to secure a deal. Angeleri began his career at Primera Division side Estudiantes in 2002 and has amassed 175 appearances for the 2009 Copa Libertadores champions. Bruce said Angeleri will provide depth to his squad, as well as additional options on the field. He told the club's official website: "Marcos is a strong, powerful defender and will add depth to the squad. "He is also very keen to get forward from that position so that adds an extra dimension to the side. "He has been one of the best right full-backs in South America in recent years and has really impressed us when we've watched him." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12875_6278251,00.html Some good signings by Sunderland this summer. First Bramble and now Angeleri, really helps shore up that backline.
