Celtic would have their resistance severely tested should Portsmouth come in with a £6million bid for Scott McDonald, the Australia striker, as some sources on the South Coast of England last night suggested they were preparing to do.

Tony Adams, the Portsmouth manager, has suffered a stormy three months in charge since succeeding Harry Redknapp at Fratton Park, but has just taken in £35million on the sales of Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid and Jermain Defoe to Tottenham Hotspur. Yesterday, Portsmouth admitted that they were “down the line” with inquiries for new players.

Adams has been quite open about the fact that he is searching for a new striker, and McDonald is believed to be one of his targets. Portsmouth have long been linked with a move for Scott Brown, the Celtic midfield player, but it now seems that McDonald has caught their eye as well.

If Portsmouth do try to lure the striker with an offer in the £5million to £6million range, the Celtic Park club would find it a difficult sum to turn down. Celtic signed McDonald for £700,000 from Motherwell in June 2007.

Newcastle also offered St Ettiene 4mil for Bafetimbi (sp?) Gomis the French international who scored ~20 goals in Ligue 1 last season, scored 2 goals in his international debut and made the EURO2008 France squad. 4mil would be a steal.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba (30) recently had another bust up with coach Felipe Scolari and is ready to leave Stamford Bridge this month. Scolari is willing to get rid of Drogba and rumours suggest that Inter Milan are favourites to sign the Ivorian.

The Sun reports that Paraguay and Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz (27) is worth 25 million £. Manchester City are strongly interested in Santa Cruz, even though their recent bid of 16 millions has been rejected by Blackburn.

The Citizens are willing to increase their bid to 20 millions now. Negotiations continue and more developments are expected in the coming days. In the meantime, Santa Cruz states : "Apparently, my club want to find a suitable replacement before agreeing with Manchester City. Anyway, Blackburn officials have promised to let me go for 25 millions".

I think he's the type of player that wouldnt do to well moving mid-season. He needs a pre-season with his new club if hes to start clicking straight away. He should wait til the summer if at all.
