Overnight: - Lyon have confirmed they have recieved a bid for Karim Benzema, while refuting reports that the striker is set to join Real Madrid. Interesting that one... - Arsenal have announced that Aaron Ramsey has signed a long-term contract extension with the club. - Burnley have completed the signing of defender David Edgar from Newcastle. - Juventus have dismissed fresh reports linking the club with a bid for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso. - Reports from Spain suggest that Sevilla have not given up their pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora, although the two clubs are still to settle on a transfer fee. - Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has left Real Madrid with a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Franck Ribery, but reiterated that it will take "something crazy" for them to consider a sale. - Atletico Madrid have signed Juanito on a free transfer after the central defender's contract with Real Betis ran out at the end of June. - Chelsea are believed to be close to completing deals to sign out-of-contract Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ross Turnbull and Manchester City forward Daniel Sturridge. - Blackburn Rovers are keen to bring in Chelsea's 20-year-old Argentinian Franco Di Santo on a season-long loan. - Dynamo Kiev are hoping to bring former star Andriy Shevchenko back to the club from Chelsea. - In an interview with The Sun Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has revealed he has had offers from AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid. His wife doesn't like Manchester but the big defender says he'll stay.

skysports.com wrote:Lyon have announced that star striker Karim Benzema is to become the latest player to join Real Madrid.
The French forward had been linked with Manchester United, but big-spending Real - who have already captured Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo in record deals - have won the race.
Lyon have said the transfer will be worth at least £30million as new Bernabeu president Florentino Perez continues to build a new era of 'galacticos'.
A statement on the French club's official website said: "Lyon announces the agreement with Real Madrid of the transfer of international attacker Karim Benzema for a net minimum value of €35m.
"It will also be possible to add various no-claims bonuses related to athletic performances, allowing the deal to reach a maximum amount €41m."

Di Santo would probably be playing regularly given that they have pretty much no strikers actually.

Of course it will happen, I reported it  But seriously. I think he could do well at Blackburn if he had the right strike partner.

I don't think he'd have worked well with Santa Cruz. But with a player like Pavlyuckenko would be interesting.

Grab the English lads when you can. As for Turnbull's decision to leave Boro - if I found myself second choice to Brad Jones I'd certainly be looking for a move. The bench at Chelsea is certainly a nicer place to be! Edited by Benjamin: 3/7/2009 09:26:12 AM

Yep, Radio 5 was reporting yesterday that the little fella was at United's training grounds warming up with the players and talking to Fergie. Massive news if true. Kick in the teeth for Scousers and Geordies alike.

lol yep supposedly he is taking a 50% pay cut if he signs and he was on 115k at toon so thats only 57,500 pounds a week which is like 3 million pounds for a year excluding bonus's and sign on fees. Looks at Tevez who was 26.5mill to buy and was rumored to demand 110,000 p/week.
I eckon if i had the choice of having tevez or having Owen + 29million pounds [Saved in wages and transfer fee] + possiblity of selling owen in window at a pretty good piece of buisness for SAF.. ooowww also Owen scored more goals than tevez in EPL last year to
MO - 25 starts + 5 subs for 11 goals CT - 18 starts + 11 subs for 5 goals

And to continue my earlier theme... Owen being English doesn't hurt if the 6+5 rule comes in.

I can't believe Owen would join United. That just makes be absolutely fucking filthy. You've grown up in Liverpool, you support Everton as a kid and get your big break from Liverpool, who you play for for nigh on eight years and you go and sign for Manchester United. You're a filthy traitorous cunt Owen.

It's Michael Owen, you're not going to get a 'decent' transfer fee for him.

Quote:I did mention Spurs. Like Harry wouldnt pay good money for an English international, especially in the striking dept. Touche. But Owen would fail with Defoe IMO. News this morning is that Chelsea have "completely rejected" an audactious bid from Manchester City for defender John Terry. Manchester United midfielder Rodrigo Possebon has joined Portuguese side Sporting Braga on a season-long loan. And 14 different newspapers are reporting Michael Owen is about to join Manchester United on a bosman.
