Where is it up to? How is it going? When will we hear more? If a mining magnate walked in the door with a fist full of cash would we point him in WSFC's direction or tell him to piss off back to Queensland? How important is it for the new club to have seasoned professionals or Australian icons amongst its ranks as role models for the talented young westies that get a gig with the club?
from what i understand, they have one more fan forum tomorow and thats them done. a coach and ceo should be named very soon, within the next 2 weeks apparently. as for the mining magnate, im not sure. lyall gorman did say they are looking at various community ownership models, and it appears he is in favour of the south sydney rabbits model, as he keeps mentioning it. from the various forums i attended, it appears that the ffa are in this for the long haul, though a nice big bag of cash may change this. they asked the people at every forum about personel within the team, and a large majority, well every single forum actually, said to have a large number of players from western sydney mixed with players from the NSWPL, mixed with some experienced players (preferably from western sydney also), i also expect you could throw some free transfers in that list.

The team had a year to build up its squad, play matches and gain a foothold in the market, and this is all it can produce? In it for the long haul is one thing to say, but theres always a line in the sand moment that decisions will need to be made.
The AFL have taken a massive risk here, and it may well have bitten off more than it can chew. Time will tell. Really glad someone questioned the AFL expansion strategy into Sydney. I dont think it could work for HAL and dont actually think its the best approach. I think they spent too much time burning funds and making little in roads. I believe they were better off saving some of the funds and making a louder bang through marketing their first season. If I enjoyed AFL and Football on an equal level, I would be more excited about WS than the Giants. Why? Because the way the FFA has approached it with community forums and essentially letting the fans decide key details. Further over the next few months we will be bombarded with WS announcements from the board, first coach and all player signings. Over the next 5 months thye FFA can hit the media and WS quite hard with announcements to gain significant momentum prior to the season.

Let's face it, if the AFL had done just *one* fan-forum for GWS you'd have been lucky to have 100 people rock up, even 50! Still can't fully believe there is an AFL side based out of there TBH. Monumental waste of time, money and resources all round:oops:

How narrow minded. If we all thought like you, your very own club (Melbourne Victory) wouldn't exist. We'd have the NSL. Also, what evidence do you have to believe less than 50 people would attend a GWS Giants meeting? Of 9,000 members (I doubt WS will get that many...), I'd say that 500 would (at least) be interested.

How legitimate can those 9,000 members be if in the first 'real' home game they only had 6,000 spectators show up?

Pretty sure those 9000 "members" for GWS include 2 or 3 game memberships. Very few season tickets.

I might decide to go to their first home game, all the way from Rockhampton. My mum has a 60+ year old cousin and her husband not far from Marconi, so I think travelling from that area wouldn't be too far I assume (assuming they play at Parra). :-k It depends on who they sign really.

Lyall gave out some interesting information at the Bankstown forum last night:
1) The supplier has set a deadline of May 15th for name, colours and logo, otherwise they would not have the capacity to produce the range of apparel in time. 2) Copyright issues are affecting the name of the club. The most popular name may not get the nod. 3) There will be a nominal FFA poll next week on the name and colours once again. 4) The club will have a public launch on June 18th for the club announcing everything related to the club: name, colours, logo, coach and players.

Forgot to mention that Kyle Patterson has affirmed that the FFA is going to actively petition both sides of politics to make a commitment for a home of football in the Liverpool (Old Oasis site) or Fairfield (Fairfield Showgrounds) areas.
He said along the lines of:
"Don't believe the bullshit some journalist write in the media about the World Cup bid. We receive very little Government money, while the AFL was just given 550 million for a new stadium in Adelaide, 80 million for a new stadium at the Sydney Showground, and they control the new stadium on the Gold Coast".
They are planning on organising petitions to submit to members of parliament and candidates in Western Sydney seats before and during the next federal election.

big fan of these two. are the birds (crows?) symbolic of anything? not sure on the stars in the bottom one though. possibly leave that space free for when (if) ws win the toilet seat, and possibly look at changing the star? Edited by pv4: 4/5/2012 08:57:22 AM

Considering you have heard the same at the forums i think it looks like they will be the ones. I was hoping for Kappa or Adidasbut oh well as long as it looks good.
