Can someone tell me about the young fella they signed (how he plays, if he's highly rated)? Next to Mooy and Elrich...

He was in CCM Youth too right?

Parramatta FC head coach Lee Sterrey is confident Kwabena Appiah-Kubi will be a hit in the Hyundai A-League after signing for the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Appiah-Kubi is the first player to be signed to the new franchise from the NSW Premier League after scoring six goals early in the season.

Sterrey believes the striker can move in leaps and bounds in the Hyundai A-League after singing his first professional contract.

``Kwabena has been first class, he is a good young kid going forward,’’ Sterrey said.

``His pace and power is really good. His quality as I said I can’t speak more highly of him.

``He has scored six goals in nine or 10 games which is even a good strike rate for the Hyundai A-League.

``He will be a good kid for Tony Popovic, I think he will only be a fringe type player but I am sure he can push himself in there.’’

Parramatta FC signed Appiah-Kubi after a stint with the Central Coast Mariners national youth league team.

Sterrey said the club is excited to have provided the first player from the NSW Premier League to Western Sydney.

``Our brief here was to build the club from the ground up and give young blokesthe opportunity to go to the A-League,’’ he said.

``We can hold our head high that we’ve supplied the first player signing out of the Premier Leaue to the West Sydney franchise which is great for our club.

Prior to 2012, Kubi had a successful year with the Central Coast Mariners youth side having been amongst the goals after being signed on from NSW Super League side Northern Tigers.

I'm surprised people never mention Brisbane and the youngster they have produced. But anyway it is a smart idea to get all these young blokes they might even earn some nice dollars from a transfer.

A few sources have been saying we already have a few more players already wrapped up and Elrich's comments just now seem to confirm this.

The Sydney Morning Herald are saying Mark Bridge, Shannon Cole, Labinot Haliti, Michael Beauchamp and Ante Covic have already signed, so at this moment the team could look something like this..

______________Covic______________

__Elrich__Player_Beauchamp__Cole__

________Player_____Player________

_______________Mooy______________

_Appiah-Kubi___Bridge____Haliti___

I reckon Flores might end up there :(

I like it all - Wanderers is a football name so I'm happy with it - also according to a mate of mine who loves his football history(obsessed more like it) Parramatta, had a Wanderers FC in the 1880's I believe..

Western Sydney fans have been screaming for a team - now they have it they need to stand up and be counted

The word is Popovic has already filled half his 23-man squad, with Aaron Mooy, Tarek Elrich and Kwabena Appiah-Kubi given the honour of unveiling the playing strip for the first time yesterday. Within the next week, the likes of Mark Bridge, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Labinot Haliti, Ante Covic, Michael Beauchamp and Shannon Cole will be formally added to the list. It's no judgment, but the fact is most of these players were unwanted by their former clubs. Popovic is believed to have signed two Croatian players during his recent scouting trip to Europe, and it will be interesting to see their pedigree. Somewhere in the process the Wanderers will need to find players to get the turnstiles moving, and the scoreboard ticking. Everyone knows the potential is enormous. Everyone knows the challenge is even bigger. But that's exactly why it's worth it.

if they got all the above players mentioned and also got neill and chippers they would have a fair squad on their hands. Not sure how true the bulut rumour was but he would be a good signing as well. only thing is he just signed for his turkish club and then was loaned back to his old czech club so i cant see him leaving the turkish club.

...what?

In the Champions League squads you're allowed 4 foreign players, of which one must be from Asia, why on Earth would Tarek be considered a foreign player?

Again, I'm fairly sure this doesn't change anything. If so, what you're saying is that for a Champions League campaign he would be one of your 4 foreign players, in which case that's a bit pointless.

i read something about western sydney wanderers signing 2 croatians. im not sure if its a rumour or not. i think it depends on who the last visa spot will go to. if western sydney sign another euro or south american, tarek would take the asian spot. im not sure if i explained it right so go easy :(

Tarek would not take any foreign spot. Whether he plays for Lebanon or not is irrelevant. He won't be counted as a foreigner just because he plays for Lebanon.

If that was the case then why isn't Smeltz counted as a foreigner?

AFC rules state that you require a squad:

- with at least 18 players
- at most 30 players
- 3 goalkeepers

Of which:

- Only 3 are allowed to not be a citizen of the country the league is in
- With an extra 1 player who is the citizen of an Asian country being counted as a "non-foreign" player

So basically, you can have 3 foreign players and an extra foreign player from Asia. You don't need to have these, but that is the maximum. There is no reason whatsoever for Tarek to take up a foreign spot as there is no requirement. Even if he plays for Lebanon he is still an Australian under these rules and so is not a foreign player. As such, there is no reason he'd ever be considered as that extra Foreign player from an Asian country.

Hope that clears it up.

Western Sydney Wanderers poised to use multi venues

From: AAP June 25, 2012

THE A-League's newest franchise will be known as Western Sydney Wanderers FC and play several matches at Sydney's Parramatta Stadium.

On the most significant day of announcements yet for the club, which will enter the competition in 2012-13, the Wanderers also unveiled their striped black, white and red Nike playing strip and first player-signings.

Promising midfielder Aaron Mooy will join the club from Scottish side St Mirren while former Newcastle captain Tarek Elrich and exciting state league player Kwabena Appiah-Kubi were also unveiled.

More player-signings will be announced in the coming days and weeks as inaugural coach Tony Popovic assembles his squad from scratch.

Wanderers executive chairman Lyall Gorman described it as a landmark day for the club and said the team colours and logo had been decided upon after community engagement in fan forums and online surveys.

...Gorman said the club would play “some” of its game at Parramatta Stadium, with stadium negotiations still ongoing.

Campbelltown Stadium and Penrith's Centrebet Stadium have been mentioned as other potential venues.

Popovic said he was delighted his first three player signings were all western Sydney products.

“There are local players from the west which is great and it's something we're really trying to do here at Western Sydney, sign players everyone out here will be able to engage with,” Popovic said.
