There's some serious talk about it over on SFCU. He's not playing next week, and hasn't played since back in Perth a month ago. Thus it won't trigger the extension clause in his contract.

Apparently he's only training with the team, nothings being confirmed as of yet, but given he came close to signing on in China before Sydney, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

I feel sorry for him if this is true, while he isn't the world's best defender, he's certainly been given the rough end of the stick. Especially since it came to light about this contract clause regarding # of games needed to trigger the extension.

No word on any club as such, but like I said, it sounds like the deals gone through or is very close to going through.

You rate this guy?? Absolute rubbish, Sydney did what it should do and not play him again and avoid paying someone for another season that they see no use of in the future.

Yeah fair enough.. good luck to him. Will probably be a decent pay cheque.

If it is true thanks for your bit of service Coyne and all the best. You were a good cult hero

I didn't mind him, he gave it 100% whenever he played. Feel sorry for him the way the contract thing worked out for him. Hope he gets paid in China

Never said I rated him, but I do feel sorry for him. He's been horribly treated by both Perth and Sydney in regards to the contract clauses.

But then again he signed those contracts. Most likely signed it knowing of the clause and if he didn't read it in the contract he is an idiot

Yes, so unfortunately it reeks of desperation on Coyne's behalf. When he left Perth, he was offered a contract in 2nd Division China, he turned it down in the belief he could keep his young family in Australia. His luck came with Sydney, but with a price - that clause. Call him ignorant, but I think he truely believed he had a future at Sydney. After all, he is a Sydney-born boy, so he was probably thinking along the lines he could finish his career here. It's probably not so ignorant in that sense, given we needed a new right back.

It'll be interesting to see if he does bite the bullet and go to China. I don't see him falling into the State Leagues and working part time.
