Highly speculative, but I saw Dave Mitchell meeting with someone in Fremantle yesterday, both were wearing suits and it seemed to be a fairly formal affair.
Sydney are chasing an Aussie coach and everything they've said points that maybe Dave could fill the role. Popovic doesn't want to leave Crystal Palace as far as I know and maybe he is a back up in case that falls through. There's also WS.

He is of course a somewhat Sydney man, and has had some success over there.

I know this 'rumour' has long since been quashed, but just to speculate what else it may've been - Given Mitchell's poor run/stint in the A-League, despite his NSL rep, I wouldn't be surprised to see him as another heading to SE Asia, like Indonesia's league, even Thailand. Like Stubbins and co (Actually, have there been any others?). I guess that sounds possible? Mitchell is no stranger to SE Asian football either - he had a short spell coaching Sarawak in the Malaysian Premier League, back in 2005.

But hey, it's also quite possible it was something not related to football, Mitchell like other former NSL coaches and the like may be falling back into, or into, work in another profession, whatever else he's qualified in. I wouldn't be surprised if he seeks a break from football.
