Goss has been relegated to the back of the pack after his sprint. A big blow to his green jersey ambitions.

A massive cross wind, BMC came to the front ripped the field in two. There was a slight climb and Cadel had a slight attack, it looked like Wiggins was caught out, his acceleration was shocking. But Cadel wasn't going that hard and Sky got the field back under control fairly quickly.

Current Tour de France leader Bradley Wiggins says he's been advised not to disclose drug test results

A day after professing his desire for total transparency, Bradley Wiggins said he has been advised against going all out to prove he is not a drugs cheat.

Wiggins has been leading the Tour de France since teammate Chris Froome cruised past defending yellow jersey champion Cadel Evans to win stage seven at the end of the steep climb to La Planche Des Belles Filles in the Vosges.

A week later, and after having faced much scrutiny as the leader of the world's biggest bike race, Wiggins looks primed to become Britain's first Tour de France champion.

But a day after asking "what more can I do?'' to prove his current success is down to bread and water, Wiggins said he had been advised against making the results of his blood passport programme public.

All professional cyclists must sign up to the programme run by the International Cycling Union (UCI), whose aim is to catch cheats by detecting fluctuations in tell-tale key parameters in blood taken at regular intervals.

Wiggins believes publishing results would cause confusion and, for him, be a "no-win'' situation.

"I did it in 2009 and people said I was doped, so I think whatever you do with the passport thing, I think it's a no-win situation,'' Wiggins said at the end of the 13th stage on Saturday.

In 2009, Wiggins claimed his best result ever on the race when he finished fourth riding for Garmin, a team who regularly profess their commitment to drugs-free sport.

Now at Sky, Wiggins says he has been advised against a repeat by "doctors in the team''.

"They've said to me that the blood passport isn't sort of clear-cut doping or not doping. There's so many variables in it.

"So if I was to do that, to certain people scrutinising it, they would say 'it's either too stable or it's too up and down'.

"I've been strongly advised against it, but it's something I'd like to do ... because I've got nothing to hide so I don't see why it shouldn't be out there.''

Sky's domination in the race has prompted some commentators to compare them to the dominant US Postal team once headed by Lance Armstrong, the seven-time champion who faces serious doping charges in the United States.

In some sections of the French press, Sky have even been dubbed 'UK Postal'.

Wiggins was also asked about reported doubts on his performance from former Irish professional Paul Kimmage, now an award-winning journalist known for his staunch anti-doping stance.

But the Englishman said there was a limit to what he would do to prove his innocence.

"Sometimes I think for certain people, whatever you do will never be enough, unless they came and lived with me for 12 months. And I'm not prepared to do that. Certainly not (with) Paul Kimmage,'' added Wiggins.

He believes his only chance at proving the doubters wrong is continuing to pass doping tests.

"The test of time is more important really, and the continuation of the fantastic job the UCI do,'' said Wiggins.

"I've lost count of the number of times I've been tested this week, blood and urine. It's the more we do that, the better our sport is becoming.''

Chris Froome has issued a veiled threat to Bradley Wiggins by saying he would be prepared to break away on his own in the Pyrenees if he felt Team Sky were letting the Tour de France slip away.

"If I feel that the Tour can be lost, I will follow the best riders, be that [Cadel] Evans or [Vincenzo] Nibali, to preserve our chance and be sure of Sky's presence," he said.

Froome was called back by his team on Stage 11 after launching a late attack towards the summit at La Toussuire that threatened to leave the yellow jersey wearer Wiggins behind, prompting many pundits to suggest he was Sky's best hope of winning the Tour. Froome lies second behind Wiggins in the Tour standings going into the Pyrenees.

"I could win this Tour, but not at Sky," he told L'Equipe. "I cannot lie to you, it's difficult, but it's my job. It's a very, very great sacrifice. We have a strategy around Wiggins and everybody respects it."

In last year's Tour of Spain, Froome finished second to the Spaniard Juan José Cobo by just 13 seconds when, again, he was riding in support of Wiggins and might have won had Sky thrown their weight behind him.

Froome said in return for backing Wiggins this year, he expects Sky to back him in next year's Tour. "It all depends on the route," Froome. "If there are Cols [summit finishes] I hope Sky will be honest and all my team-mates will be at my service, with the same loyalty I have shown today."

Team Sky maintain the triple Olympic champion is the nominated leader but if Wiggins has a bad day this week, the lead may be passed on to ensure Team Sky remain at the top of the standings.

Wiggins is seeking to become the first British winner of the Tour in Paris on 22 July and Froome could join him on the podium, something no Britons have achieved in the 99 previous additions of the race.

Can any serious cyclists explain how yesterday Cadel was standing on the pedals going up the last hill to breakaway and Wiggins calmly caught him while being seated the whole time?

Commentators were saying in the time trial Wiggins has extremely good form and leg power honed from his years of track cycling which means he rarely needs to break his form to generate enough power in climbs.

Tbf I don't think he actually knew just what was going on when he attacked. He would've just seen the peleton slowing down and he saw a chance, he would've had the situation explained to him when he came back.

Spot on fellas - I'm actually frustrated that the tour route is epic this year (those narrower than usual twistys are amazing, very tight turns etc) but the performers are not singing the same tune, its like many of them are preserving themselves (maybe being a olympic year ?) and with Sky/Wiggins holding their strong lead I'm kind of bored compared to other years I watch.
Sure their have been some great performances BUT its got the similar tune every day to date.
Yes I'm down hearted CD isn't pegging back some time but its like an anti climax or am I reading this wrong from my couch ?!
