ROFL this. The FFA said it reeked Greek in a non direct manner when rejecting it. The board was to be made of 90% Greek community people. Not to mention the other stuff that steered it away from the mainstream which was required.

The behavior at the derby and other matches shows that fan trouble is an inevitable part of football. And after going through such a tough period, would you not think the club and it's fans would do everything in their power to prevent anything that could harm them in future? Whether you agree with that or not, is up to you.

If South Melbourne were to establish all the infrastructure and sponsorship required for the A-League, disqualifying them purely because of their Greek heritage is nothing short of discrimination.

Unfortunately this is what happened.

Compare South or the average "ethnic" club in Australia to Chivas in mls, i was doing some reaearch on them, their new owner wants the club to have mexican/latino players only, promote the team in hispanic community only, have games exclusively on hispanic tv....imo this is a disgrace and such a team only belongs in the mexican league...this is simply not the model of our clubs though...Chivas are genuine Mexican, my club is Australian created by Greeks who arrived in this country over half a century ago, such a different model, yet these bunnies find themselves in the top league in America whilst the rest of us here can get a sniff no matter what.

Chivas are a great example of how an ethnic club can work in a professional league. In a city with the 2nd largest Greek population outside of Athens, a community that adores the game, and in a city of sports-mad fans, it would be idiotic to deny a club as great as South the chance to unite the two.

I wouldnt say Chivas has worked, its the minor club of chivas guadalajara (biggest team in mexico), so they instantly alienate the rest of the mexican community, the real chivas fans see them as the B team, and obviously the mainstream have no interest as they dont really give a toss about the US. It would be like adding Olympiakos Melbourne to the A league...its silly:lol:

Pretty sure Thessaloniki and metropolitan New York have larger greek populations than Melbourne.

My point is thats not really the type of model that i respect, because it purposely alienates everything, our clubs dont that, we sign players of all backgrounds, we try promote in the mainstream and even have our own tv show, we dont turn anyone away...we dont care where the fans come from. Yet this sort of progressive mindset is always shutdown...im sure rusty and paulc will march in soon with some souvlaki comment in a minute:lol:

Al the moderators are well aware of this thread. The general opinion is that there is nothing going on in here that is against the rules. End of the day - if you don't like it, don't read it.

Considering the massive number of threads which routinely refer to Victory/Heart/Melbourne people as 'Tards', I think a discussion about the viability of one franchise, and the options to replace them IF they fail, is hardly the biggest source of insults on the forum.

If it were a proactive discussion that would be good unfortunately it's not it's a troll. Trolling is when the thread starter posts a highly illogical inflammatory subject and tries to feed it by bumping it repeatedly to get attention for themselves or their cause. The highly illogical subject by this thread's starter was suggesting the heart be removed from the a-league in place of south, the thread starter has continued to bump the thread each time adding any material however irrelevant it is, following the traditional trolling method. There is no effort by the thread starter to develop a proactive intelligent discussion because the starting point is so ludicrous that this was never his intention. With the bitter south fans getting involved in the thread to try and suck heart fans into replying, some heart fans inevitably will reply because the suggestion that their club be removed from the league even if irrational is still is highly emotive. This is normally when the moderators on a forum would step in and lock a thread and ban the poster for a while to encourage positive discussions instead of flamming. For some reason you've misinterpreted the thread starter's trolling as a legitimate discussion about possible replacements if a franchise fails. Persistent trolling is often contagious as other posters realise they don't need to provide logic or reason for their threads, the usual pattern is more and more threads start up of this nature and the quality of discussion in the forum is dragged down as posters who attempt to post intelligent genuine discussion points are dissuaded from giving their thoughts, eventually this results in a less interesting and visited forum.

As the topic starter - I think it is only natural for someone like me who is a smfc fan and was across the details of the sxfc bid 3 years ago to question the relavance of MH - particularly on the back of 4505 when this thread commenced

As for trolling - there has been an element from both sides of the fence - however to suggest that the 95 pages are nothing but troll is stupid

The majority of the thread has been relevant discussion from all perspectives

However as long as Heart underachieve as an entity and as long as smfc express a desire to achieve - then expect discussions like these to continue

Heart has the licence - south doesn't - nothing wrong with expressions of interest and argumentative debates

That's football

Heart clearly got preferential treatment during the bidding process - however that does not mean they should get preferential opinions based on performance

Respect is earned - not given

Deal with it

No probs on this one based on statistical analysis based on past attendance with variances allowed for increased media exposure on TV Radio and print, allowance for high profile A-League as compared to NSL, allowance for FFA marketing expenditure compared to ASF marketing expenditure on NSL, and of course allowance for high coporate governance and capitalisation of franchises and adjusted coefficient for the increased capacity of management.

This equals 12,209.

Big deal. You have interest in Hellas, most here don't. Explains alot.

More important than than your diversion is SM Hellas should demonstrate it's intention to broaden with actions as it has come short big time.

I guess two minute NSL wonders like yourself find it hard to understand.

In other words - after being given THREE opportunities to explain my 'vested interest' you are unable to do so. Dismissing it with a 'big deal' doesn't answer the question.

Seriously the whole 'if South had FFA marketing we'd get crowds of 15k+' is getting tired not to mention false. Adelaide and Perth averages are actually down a little since the NSL, the only other club to survive Newcastle averaged 10k+ for regular fixtures, might have been 2001 or 02, so clearly there is no evidence that increased marketing and exposure leads to bigger crowds for specific clubs. In fact it'd be impossible for a club that has 50 year history to attract new mainstream support, given its pre-existing brand an identity is not popuar and never has been with the Melbourne public.

It's also interesting to note South fans have a hobby of critising the FFA at every opportunity and every decision yet have no problem piggybacking off its marketing and brand power in order to acheive respectable crowds and commericial success. Perhaps if they are incapable of drumming up their own support FFA should take over the operations and managementof the club.

I think it's strange that you've said the thread represents south replacing the heart based on one crowd performance - an illogical argument most would consider trolling - but your pal moderator Benjmain considers it representing a hypothetical discussion about a possible replacement if a franchise should fail in the league. You're either really bad at expressing your point, or he's turning a blind eye. ;)

It's neither. Chris stated an opinion - others joined the conversation. At no point did Chris say anything that broke the forum rules, and (amazingly) over 90 pages of debate hasn't spawned anything (from anyone) that is worthy of action.

Of course Ben, it's important to keep the SM Hellas propaganda on the table. Well done.

Chivas are a great example of how an ethnic club can work in a professional league. In a city with the 2nd largest Greek population outside of Athens, a community that adores the game, and in a city of sports-mad fans, it would be idiotic to deny a club as great as South the chance to unite the two.

3rd largest Greek population.

1. Athena
2. Thessalonica
3. Melbourne (including 2nd, 3rd & 4th generations).

Seriously the whole 'if South had FFA marketing we'd get crowds of 15k+' is getting tired not to mention false.

I'm confused is the Football landscape under the FFA better for you now or not?

I pretty much think its better and I reckon most SMFC supporters would agree the footprint started by the FFA would benefit SMFC if we were in the HAL.

Adelaide and Perth averages are actually down a little since the NSL, the only other club to survive Newcastle averaged 10k+ for regular fixtures, might have been 2001 or 02, so clearly there is no evidence that increased marketing and exposure leads to bigger crowds for specific clubs.

Adelaide and Perth need their old nemesis, SMFC, included to re-invigorate the juices.
Lets not forget some of their best crowds were against SMFC. Though as your statement clearly implies I would not say that Herat's lack of identity is affecting the ability of franchises like Perth and Adelaide to attract crowds.

In fact it'd be impossible for a club that has 50 year history to attract new mainstream support, given its pre-existing brand an identity is not popuar and never has been with the Melbourne public.

Now you are a marketing guru? Under the conditions set by the FFA, the pervailing enviroment and financial investment in the HAL of course South Melbourne can develop its brand so that all revenue sources are on an upward trend. A third derby to save Heart and increased attendance for Perth and Adelaide. Win win for everyone.

It's also interesting to note South fans have a hobby of critising the FFA at every opportunity and every decision yet have no problem piggybacking off its marketing and brand power in order to acheive respectable crowds and commericial success.

Of course some SMFC supporters crticise the FFA, I can't blame them for several issues that have left a sourtaste in the mouth.

While these are personal issues we all realise that SMFC is about playing at the highest level possible.

Perhaps if they are incapable of drumming up their own support FFA should take over the operations and managementof the club.

Maybe this might be Melbourne Heart's fate?

Just to note that there are a couple of well established fans of Perth Glory and Adelaide United who are also very critical of the FFA... Are they bitter because their clubs missed out too? No, because their clubs are IN the A-league. So what possible explanation could there be other than... Wait... Perhaps the system isn't perfect and some people feel the need to point out faults rather than blindly bow down and celebrate the good bits whilst ignoring the bad.

Exactly. To complain about the continuing thread when you are contributing to half it's length is priceless. Like a dog chasing its tail.

Not to mention us MV fans, some supporter groups in particular, we've been super-critical of the FFA over the past 8 years.
