Welp, seeing as the other two Battle threads have fallen by the wayside, I thought we'd step into the void with something a little more Football related.

The battle will be the usual battle layout, Although I did like Benjo's idea with voting for the best 2 out of 4 etc. May go with that. How many we end up having depends how many you guys can nominate, we'll see how it goes.

The only rules:
-Any goal in history is welcome, but make sure it is actually spectacular. Team Goals as well as Individual Brilliance is what we're looking for.
-You must provide VIDEO evidence of your nomination.
-We'll start with a limit of 5 nominations per person. Then if we need to add more numbers at the end, Free for all.

Gourcuff's is just, well, exceptional :P
Yoshida is a very nice strike, and I vote for it over Stankovic because even though it's a good hit, he kinda just throws a leg at it, doesn't have to beat the keeper either.

Kaka - 1

Figgy was fantastic awareness and great technique to beat the keeper from there. Kaka was a good run, but an average finish, where Xabi showed great touch and composure to score from that far out. plays for Liverpool.

Battle 3-

Very tough one this. All good but no standouts from each other.

Yoshida shows great situational awareness and brilliant touch to nail that. Stankovic just kind of stabs at it. Good touch but that's about all.

Battle 2:

1 point - Kaka
Alonso side-stepping the keeper like that is what made the goal memorable. Figueroa hit a gem of a strike but Alonso plays for Liverpool 8-[

Battle 3:

Lahm was gypped not to get goal of the tournament for that strike. Ginola's effort was superb. German bias ftw.

Fig's strike was pretty awesome. Vision to see the keeper and then a hard flat strike to slot it home. Kaka's was a nice run, nothing too spectacular with the finish. Pretty unimpressed with Alonso's tbh.

Lahm's is one of my favourite all time goals, beautiful strike to open the 2006 WC. I tend to prefer Awesome strikes, over good runs, so Nihat gets 2.

Pretty simple, I fucking love acrobatic goals. And whilst Gourcuff's showed amazing composure, Yoshida had to back track and then time his jump/leap to perfection. Stanko's just a lucky shot. 8/10 times it fizzles out for a throw in or goal kick.

What a strike by Fig. Couldn't have possibly hit it any better than that. To have the idea to belt a free kick in their own half is genius/crazy. Alonso's goal is overated I reckon. Open net and everything... (Inb4 Liverpool fans)

Fantastic curler by Lahm from not an easy angle.

Yoshida displays brilliant athleticism to do that. stankovic, well people say he just stabbed at it. But that's the best fucking stab I've seen. Gorcuff's is brilliant as well, but I like Dejan's more just for the audacity.

1- Kaka
Figueroa's is a beauty, the vision to spot that and then the execution, also note that Sorensen isn't that far out. Alonso's is a composed finish but tbf it's an open goal. Kaka's is a good goal, but the defending looked pretty average, lunging at it rather than trying to jockey him or stand him up.

2- Ginola
1- Lahm
Nihat's is brilliant, the dip and accuracy is incredible. Ginola's run is just brilliant, and then a nice finish to beat the keeper. Lahm's goal is also awesome, but not as good as the other two in my books.

gourcuff's goal has been one of my favourites for a long time, absolutely brilliant stuff. the fact the it's a first-time hit makes stank's really, really awesome to me. yoshida's is cool and all, but the other two outshine his imo.

such awareness by fig - backed himself & still had to beat the keeper. there's not too many other places he could have hit it & it would have gone in from there. kaka for individual brilliance, he's an artist. xabi's was good that he backed himself and all, but it wasn't the sweetest hit.

right footers cutting back in from the left is always going to get me, i love it! ginola just glides through the opposition, amazing stuff and very cool & calm finish. nihat hits it nice, but it's nothing THAT special imo - would have preferred for some awesome build-up play or something.

Carlos' goal is quality, but the 'Olympico goal' is an old party trick. Both Marco Pappa and Thierry Henry replicated it for NY this season. Pirlo's casual flick was spectacular.

Beckham's goal is one of the most memorable he ever scored. Baggio's touch in controlling that ball as he moved with the flight of it was pretty special though.

Pirlo's strike is brilliant, I love how he just strolls on nonchalantly and then hits the top corner. Carlos's goal is quality, but he's helped by the keeper and the defender being off the line. Mc Fadden's is awesome as well...but you get the feeling the keeper could have done better.

Lovely long range volley from Phillps. Beckham's is genius, but he had the ball at his feet, whereas Phillips had take it as it came to him baggio's goal is great control but unspectacular apart from that.

That Lucas goal is superb, to pick a ball out of the airline that is brilliant. Love the technique n Gerrard's one, the fact it's a half volley just shades it over Best for me.

a pure scottish goal. hoof it, don't mess around, whack it in. what i like about mcfadden's is that it catches the french by surprise, there's no time to even think. pirlo's is amazing because it's so casual. the defence are idiots for allowing any team that much space, but even when pirlo hits it, it doesn't seem like it's a shot. baggio's is good but i can't help but facepalm at the lack of defence/gk setup for it. the fact that his teammate jumps over it makes it a bit of a mockery goal imo.

dat ball, dat touch :cool: absolute class by baggio. love the curl on phillip's goal, plus how he braces himself to hit it. becks's goal has had it's time in the limelight, give someone else a run.

best with absolutely amazing class. reminded me heaps of viduka playing with the defenders like that. unreal. lucas's is brilliant - from the corner directly to him to him hitting the ball on the full volley while it's kind of curling away from him. gerrard's was unreal too, love the bounce-volley, but i think it's a bit "oh, another gerrard goal" for me - old news kinda stuff.

Tough draw for the Lucas and Gerrard goals. I probably would have voted for them if they had been drawn in the other two battles. Best is just brilliant.

I have to agree re: Carlos. Yeah it's opportunistic, but where is the keeper or defending on the near post. That goal Doesn't do anything for me
