There is a story floating around that Kennett was going to build a rectangular stadium there, but it's extremely unlikely at that time that Kennett would have found private backers to build it.

Nothing on Wikipedia suggests the AFL spent anything on it.

It says it's owned by "James Fielding Funds Management".

I couldn't find any articles in the AFL's 'investment' into Etihad.

If I remember correctly the AFL hijacked the old colonial stadium deal , they jumped in as they sold Waverly park and had no stadium that they owned . The AFL had nothing to do with it until later

For all we piss and whine about the tax the government put into the AFL, and the positive media coverage they get, etc., at the end of the day you reap what you sow.

The AFL built it using the proceeds of Waverley and private debt.

Can someone please explain how those dirty AFL @@@ will obtain outright ownership in 2025...
